Facilities and Health & Safety Manager

Department: Operations

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Location: Bristol, UK

Reporting To: Chris Gumbleton

Compensation: GBP 40,000 - GBP 50,000 / year

Description

At Rowden, we design and integrate advanced systems that sense, connect, and protect data in challenging environments where quick decisions are vital. Our solutions use intelligent automation to enhance speed and efficiency and are built to be reliable and straightforward for critical operations in remote or high-pressure settings.

Headquartered in Bristol (UK), we combine modern engineering methods with cutting-edge commercial technology to create adaptable, mission-critical systems. We focus on solving the tough challenges that others overlook, ensuring our customers can operate effectively in an ever-changing world.

We're looking for an experienced Facilities and Health & Safety Manager to ensure our workplaces operate effectively and safely. You will be responsible for maintaining our facilities, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and driving a culture of continuous improvement. Additionally, you will lead our internal audit programme, working across departments to assess and improve business processes.

You will be pragmatic and solutions-focused in your approach, balancing compliance and best practice with the dynamic needs of a growing technology company. As part of the Operations team, you'll work alongside a group of committed professionals who are passionate about their work.

Key Areas of Responsibility

As a Facilities and Health & Safety Manager at Rowden, you'll be responsible for:

  • Managing and maintaining Rowden's facilities, ensuring a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Implementing and overseeing health and safety policies and procedures across all business activities.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation and best practice.
  • Leading cross-functional internal audits to improve business processes and ensure compliance with internal policies.
  • Tracking and reporting key safety, facilities, and compliance metrics.
  • Working with teams across the business to document and refine operational processes.
  • Managing relationships with external suppliers and service providers.
  • Delivering training and awareness sessions to employees on health and safety best practice.
  • Identifying and implementing opportunities for efficiency and process improvement.

Key Skills, Experience and Behaviours

We are looking for someone who is passionate about workplace safety and operational excellence. You will be constantly learning and developing in this role, but some key skills and experience you should already have include:

  • Experience managing facilities and health & safety in a business environment.
  • A strong understanding of health and safety regulations and compliance.
  • Experience running and auditing management systems.
  • The ability to assess risk and implement effective mitigations.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage people at all levels.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience delivering training and driving cultural change.
  • A pragmatic approach, balancing best practice with business needs.

About You

The ideal candidate will have a strong balance of the following skills, experience, and behavioural competencies:

  • Teamworking and collaboration - you'll work closely with teams across the business. The ability to communicate well, share knowledge, and challenge constructively is an essential skill for the role.
  • Adaptability, resilience, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment subject to constant change.
  • Ability (and desire) to learn - our industry changes rapidly, and you should be comfortable with regularly learning new approaches and best practice, while staying on top of regulatory changes.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused mindset, with the ability to identify and implement improvements.

Working at Rowden

We are committed to building a flexible, inclusive, and enabling company. Our aim is to create a diverse team of talented people with unique skills, experience, and backgrounds, so please apply and come as you are!

We also recognise the importance of flexible working and support this wherever we can. We typically operate a flexible, hybrid-working model, with an average 3 days in the office each week (dependent on the role). We welcome the opportunity to discuss flexibility, part-time working requirements and/or workplace adjustments with all our applicants.

Rowden is a Disability Confident Committed company, and we actively encourage people with disabilities and health conditions to apply for our roles. Please let us know your requirements early on so that we can make sure you have everything you need up front to help make the recruitment process and experience as easy as possible.

Finally, if you feel that you don't meet all the criteria included above but have transferable skills and relevant experience, we'd still love to hear from you!
