Executive, Rights Management

The Role

The team..

The Rights Management department operates as a vital part of the broader Legal team. We collaborate closely with Production, Music, and Finance to give the business and our strategic partners complete visibility and access to our content. Our team manages a massive catalogue of over 250,000 hours of IP including television programmes, feature films, and formats produced by ITV Studios or acquired by Global Partnerships. We are a commercial, data-focused, and supportive function dedicated to protecting and maximising the value of our content around the world.

The role..

We're looking for a Rights Executive to join our team on a permanent basis. Reporting directly to the Rights Manager, you will work closely with the Senior Rights Executive and the wider team to promote the widest possible exploitation of ITV's extensive content catalogue.

Your primary purpose will be conducting rights assessments for ITV content, interpreting contractual agreements to determine rights ownership, availability, restrictions, obligations and exploitation opportunities. Alongside this, you will record and maintain rights data and support our sales and distribution arms. Because the licensing of our content creates payment and reporting obligations that rely strictly on accurate data, your work directly underpins ITV's commercial strategies to grow ITV Studios globally.

Some of your key day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing and interpreting contractual rights information to determine content availability, usage restrictions and exploitation opportunities, providing accurate rights guidance to support ITV's commercial, distribution and exploitation activities.
  • Providing proactive solutions to rights clearance and cost issues, undertaking risk assessments through discussion with the Rights Manager and Head of Rights Management.
  • Assisting ITV's sales and distribution arms with the creation and maintenance of programme data and exploitation licences where necessary.
  • Maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a continual, seamless flow of rights information into the department.
  • Negotiating rights clearances and renewals required for secondary exploitation, in conjunction with the Rights Managers and Head of Rights Management.
  • Supporting the development of new technologies to help achieve future-facing, modern rights management systems.
  • Assisting in producing necessary reporting to meet ITV's ongoing commercial and contractual obligations.
  • Keeping abreast of evolving rights and talent union issues through information circulated within Rights and Business Affairs.
  • Interpreting, inputting, and maintaining detailed rights information for ITV content into our rights systems in accordance with agreed policies, standards, and KPI deadlines.
  • Partnering closely with the Talent and Royalty Payments team, providing authority to pay by inputting required rights data into the relevant systems.

Skills you'll need (minimum criteria)

  • Relevant experience working within a television rights, casting, or talent payments environment (experience in Business Affairs, media distribution, or paralegal roles will also be considered).
  • Service excellence and networking skills-possessing effective communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills to build successful working relationships at all levels.
  • A strong eye for detail, exceptional accuracy, and a solid foundation of literacy, numeracy, and IT skills.
  • Demonstrable commercial awareness and a genuine drive and passion for television.
  • Strong organisational and information management skills, with the ability to maintain complex tracking metrics.

Other things we're looking for (key criteria)

  • Desirable experience in reading and interpreting complex legal data and contractual agreements.
  • Prior experience as an experienced user of PARIS, Rightsline, or equivalent rights management systems is highly advantageous.
  • A desire to contribute to our overarching "More Than TV" strategy by actively working to grow ITV Studios.

Potential Challenges

  • As part of an international business, occasional out-of-hours calls and/or attendance may be required to sync with global partners.
  • Some travel within the UK may be required from time to time.

Please note, on occasion we may receive a very large volume of applications which means applications for a role may close earlier than the referenced closing date. We'd encourage you to apply as soon as possible if interested.
