About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role supporting the delivery of events within the Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy.

The role will involve organising and delivering events and exhibitions showcasing the expertise of our world-leading research and teaching. The post-holder will also work with other events and communications professionals, supporting the delivery of events across the faculty with logistical, promotional and marketing support.

Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager, the successful candidate will have substantial event management expertise, together with strong creative and organisational skills. Communication with diverse audiences, excellent interpersonal skills and building collaborative relationships is a key aspect of the role. We are looking for a confident and self-assured individual with demonstrable experience of building networks and influencing and negotiating with stakeholders. Experience of managing multiple projects effectively, good attention to detail and managing in-person, hybrid and online events are also key requirements for this role.

This is a full- time post (35 hours per week), being offered as 12 months maternity cover. The post-holder will be expected to occasionally work outside normal working hours.

This is a hybrid post, with the post-holder expected to be on-site at our Strand Campus for a minimum of 40% of the time (2 days a week)

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Educated to degree level or equivalent, relevant work experience.
  2. Significant experience of planning and delivering successful events, including managing and hosting online and hybrid events and creating and delivering exhibitions.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of the practical issues in planning and delivering events, including compliance for health and safety and risk management.
  4. Knowledge of using online registration platforms, web content management systems and social media to effectively manage, market and promote events.
  5. Experience of working with internal and external colleagues and organisations and identifying opportunities for collaboration.
  6. Excellent oral and written communication skills with an ability to engage diplomatically, tactfully and confidently with a range of stakeholders, both within and outside the organisation of all levels of seniority.
  7. Self-starter with the ability to take the initiative as needed and the creativity to identify opportunities and devise new ideas to engage different audiences.
  8. The ability to work to a high level of accuracy, with meticulous attention to detail while managing projects and multi-tasking effectively.

Desirable criteria

  1. Experience of working within the Higher Education sector.
  2. Experience of working with spreadsheets, budgets and evaluation methods.
