At Ernst & Young ("EY"), the 'Risk Management' (RM) group is responsible for the promotion and support of internal risk management, within the UK business. RM's aim is to uphold our business standards, maintain and enhance the value of the firm, and ensure that the UK&I firm complies with the rules and regulations imposed either by external Regulators or by Ernst & Young Global, in relation to the conduct of our business.

The opportunity

This role sits within the UK Compliance Risk team, a team of 5 people responsible for compliance oversight of key UK wide policy areas that govern how we accept clients and engagements into the firm, how we approve new services and how we manage our legal and regulatory responsibilities related to topics such as market abuse, modern slavery and lobbying, both day to day, and during periods of change. We have an opportunity for a new Senior Associate to join the team to focus on policy compliance and supporting policy advice and monitoring activity.

Your key responsibilities

Support the application of the firm's regulatory compliance and risk framework components, including performance of activities related to policy governance, controls testing, compliance monitoring, and reporting.

  • This role will also require the individual to be able to support the following areas, as needed:
    • Performance of risk management due diligence checks involving a variety of compliance policy areas
    • Compliance data analysis, risk assessments and review of monitoring and testing results
    • Production of compliance monitoring reports and summaries of findings
    • Support the annual risk management ratings process for Partners and Directors
    • Coordination of knowledge sharing and networking with the Service Line Quality colleagues
  • Other risk management responsibilities as needed on training, special projects etc

Skills and attributes for success

  • Compliance experience including controls monitoring, compliance testing, training and record-keeping.
  • Experience of working with large data sets and summarising findings and results in a variety of formats
  • Understanding of risk management frameworks, policy development and compliance oversight activity.
  • Ability to apply judgment to resolving complex risk and compliance matters.
  • Ability to successfully engage with a broad range of stakeholders, establishing credibility, respect and trust at all levels, including with senior partners of the firm.
  • Appetite for managing and delivering change management initiatives.
  • Demonstrates an interest in comprehending regulatory requirements and their impact on our internal policies.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • Strong personal communication skills, capable of dealing with wide a range of people.
  • Effective planning and organisational skills to prioritise key areas of responsibility and manage tasks and projects through to completion.

Ideally, you'll also have

  • Knowledge of regulated assurance services, consulting or other regulated business activities, and/or experience of working with Regulators would be an asset.
  • Relevant qualifications in compliance and/or experience with compliance policy areas would be an asset.
