The Estia Centre requires a Head of Education and Training and invite suitably qualified and experienced applicants to apply.

The Head of Education and Training will be a key member of the Neurodevelopmental Disorder management team and be responsible for ensuring there are training and career development opportunities for people with learning disability and autistic people. The postholder will also be responsible to provide learning disability and autism training to staff. The postholder will work with other learning disability and autism staff, with other training department in the SLAM such as Maudsley Learning and Training & Development Department ) and will report to Deputy Director for Neurodevelopmental Disorders and Specialist Psychosis pathways.

The post holder will be required to identify and incorporate external funding opportunities as well as income generating opportunities. to further the training and education across SLAM and external agencies.

Main duties of the job
• To manage the development and delivery of the Estia Centre's strategy
• To develop income generating business opportunities.
• Oversee the development, delivery of learning and development programmes to improve the health outcomes of people with learning disabilities and autistic adults.
• To lead and deliver evidence and values-based research for adults with learning disability and/or autistic adults who may have additional mental health needs and or behaviours of concerns/distress.
• Coordinate, develop and deliver training programmes and learning and development initiatives to health and social care workforce to improve the health outcomes of adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults.
• Ensure that all training and publications delivered/produced by the Centre are underpinned by relevant clinical knowledge, are evidence based and kept up to date with clinical advances and research.

The Estia Centre is a widely acknowledged as one of the market leaders in training and research for adults with learning disability and or autism and additional mental health needs and or complex needs. We are a Skills for Care Endorsed provider and a City and Guilds Assured provider of a wide range of development programmes coproduced in partnership with our clinical subject matter experts across South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and Guys and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust and with our learning disability and autism subject matter experts. Together we aim to develop the confidence, competence and skills of local, regional and national support staff and teams through open courses advertised in our prospectus and via bespoke and tailor-made learning programme. Estia is also working with the King's Health Partners (KHP). KHP is an Academic Health Sciences Centre where world-class research, education and clinical practice are brought together for the benefit of patients, bringing together three leading NHS Foundation Trusts - Guy's and St Thomas', King's College Hospital and South London and Maudsley - with a globally renowned university, King's College London.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
• Manage the development and implementation of the Estia Centre's multi-disciplinary academic programme in collaboration with Clinical Academic Group (CAG).
• Contribute to the overall education and training strategy of the Behavioural and Development Psychiatry CAG to ensure the unique training and development needs of clinicians are met.
• Collaborate with clinical services and departments as necessary to support the development and delivery of national conferences and seminars relating to Learning Disability and Autism.
• To ensure experts by experience and people with lived experience are involved in contributing and shaping of the Estia centre strategy, policy, service development and service improvement where appropriate. This includes those from diverse communities and in line with the diverse groups Equality and Diversity policies.
• Promoting the inclusion of adults with learning disability and/or autism in local research initiatives and projects
• Develop multiagency and inter-departmental partnerships to identify and collaborate on business opportunities and projects. This includes working in partnership with Maudsley Enterprise and SLAM's Training and Development department
• Promote the Estia Centre's learning and development offer and liaise with potential external customers and partners to identify unmet need and implement learning interventions to generate income.
• Analyse and respond to data/information to address business and development challenges of our customers and partners and to continuously improve the quality of our programme delivery.
• Responsibility for the leadership and development of the Estia Centre Team
• Leading the development and delivery of the Estia Centre's training and consultancy/projects
• Managing the Estia Centre's budget to ensure that it meets its targets for income costs and profits.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Relevant clinical qualification and/or Professional qualification in organisational learning and development (Assoc CIPD or above)
  • Educated to a Master level and or holding a relevant teacher training qualification.
  • In depth practical, theoretical and implicit knowledge about learning disability, autism and additional mental health needs and or challenging or distressed behaviour.
  • Advanced research skills and knowledge

Desirable criteria

  • Relevant health Qualification and current professional registration (i.e., NMC, GMC, HCPC)
  • Awareness NHS quality improvement systems and methods and experience of leading and or implementing quality improvement projects

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Advanced experience of working at a senior level in services for adults with learning disability and/or autistic adults.
  • Substantial experience of developing and delivering training and consultancy.
  • Advanced experience of project management.
  • Writing and preparing successful grant and tender applications
  • Advanced report writing skills.
  • Advanced experience of supervising, managing and developing teams
  • Advanced experience of working with multi-agencies and organisations.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of publishing training materials, books and articles.

Knowledge/Skills

Essential criteria

  • Excellent understanding of the care, treatment and support needs of people with learning disability and or autism.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work alone, set performance targets and manage own workload
  • Skilled in writing articles, papers and other communications to an academic standard
  • Up to date knowledge of current NHS policy and service initiatives relating to people with learning disability and or autism
  • Substantial experience of applying best practice in training and learning
  • Substantial experience in design and development of evaluation materials in learning disability and autism
  • Highly skilled in using IT and modern Microsoft applications (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel etc)

Desirable criteria

  • Up to date knowledge of current health and social care policy and best practice relating to the care and support of adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults who may have additional mental health needs and present behaviours of concern/distress.
