Job overview
The postholder will join the facilities and estates management team and will be collectively responsible in delivering safe and compliant electrical / mechanical / plumbing and building fabric services across all the Trust buildings.
The role involves directly leading a team of trade staff to deliver a safe and compliant hospital place for all patients, visitors, and staff; ensuring compliance and governance with all Trust standards and procedures, along with HTMs, HBNs, British Standards and good practice.
There are three posts available to align with the Trust's clinical services: North, South and Specialist Services. However, the postholders will be required to work closely with each other and cover sites as needed for the business. Posts available and main localities to be covered will be discussed at the interview.
Main duties of the job
The following are some of the main duties of the postholder:
- Oversee and monitor engineering and building services and systems.
- Advise on all mechanical, electrical and building fabric services and systems concerning any problematic areas, non-compliance with statutory or mandatory regulations and risks to business continuity.
- Identify backlog maintenance issues and develop plans to implement a rolling maintenance strategy / planned maintenance programme.
- Manage the delivery of small / minor works in a cost efficient and safe
manner, having communicated effectively with the respective departments as necessary. - Oversee and be involved in conducting audits and site visits to examine information and physical buildings/plant for compliance with contract requirements and Trust policies.
- Monitor standards of workmanship by contractors and directly employed staff and take necessary remedial actions.
- Chair meetings and lead negotiations with internal customers and external suppliers.
- Manage in-house staff in line with Trust policies.
- Communicate regularly with Estates staff, senior management and clinical staff. Build strong relationships with site and ward management within network to rectify any issues as they arise or support as swiftly as possible.
- Ensure estates jobs are updated on the system and jobs are progressing with the services. Keep services updated on progress and timescales.

Person specification
Education / Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Engineering Related HND in Electrical or mechanical services, engineering or building skills or equivalent qualification and experience.
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Short courses and experience to Masters Level
Desirable criteria
- Apprenticeship in electrical, mechanical, plumbing or building trade.
- Membership of a professional organisation e.g. IET, CIBSE, etc
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience managing health and safety in a maintenance environment
- Demonstrable management / supervision experience
- Demonstrable experience of maintenance planning and management
Desirable criteria
- Competent with CMMS and management of Reactive and PPM wor
- Knowledge and experience of Handheld devices for use with CMMS
- Authorised Person or equivalent for engineering installations or systems
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- In-depth knowledge of statutory compliance
- Awareness of health and safety in a maintenance environment
Desirable criteria
- Sound knowledge of NHS technical documents, British standards, regulations, legislation, and codes of practice.

What pre-employment checks will I need to complete?
By conducting pre-employment checks, the recruitment team will verify that you meet the pre-conditions of the role you have been offered. Pre-employment checks will be carried out according to NHS Employment Check Standards. The checks are:
- Identity verification
- Right to work check
- Disclosure and barring service (DBS)/Criminal record check (dependent on role)
- Professional registration and/or qualification check
- Occupational health assessment
- Employment history and reference validation
All applicants external to NHS will be required to provide HMRC employment history to cover the most recent three years. This information will used to validate employment history and references as part of pre-employment checks.

What happens when pre-employment checks are complete?
