What you'll be doing
- Support delivery of UK and Group Zero Harm and Sustainability action plans
- Lead and manage the overall capability, development, deployment and performance of Environment and Sustainability requirements within the CRSA Alliance
- Assess environmental and social risks and opportunities and maintain the required environmental and social management plans, and other requirements
- Manage consents and licences required under the alliance
- Contribute to the delivery of the Alliance commitments via an action plan for environment and sustainability
- Support projects within your region on Social Impact
- Translate and ensure compliance against BMS standards, procedures and policies
- Support the delivery of the sustainability performance management and reporting for the designated work area, analysing trends to build improvement in line with contract requirements
- Ensure sustainability data from projects is uploaded onto the sustainability portal on a monthly basis
- Carry out investigations on environmental incidents and feedback any lessons learned
- Support project teams to ensure they are compliant with all customer contract
requirements, environmental legislation and the environmental processes and procedures outlined in the BMS - Work with project teams to ensure appropriate community investment via Involved plan
- Utilise the findings from reporting data, assessments, external and internal audits to drive performance improvements
- Provide on-going expertise, support and coaching to contracts, projects and offices through regular and structured site visits and communications.
- Assist in the development of case studies and lessons learnt

- Maintain and develop wider HSW and ES skills and knowledge
- Support site compounds in achieving and maintaining a score of 40 or above under the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS)
Who we're looking for
The following qualities/experience are essential:
- Ability to influence and promote a positive ES culture and take forward contract
requirements - Ability to introduce processes and management tools to move forward with the project programme
- Ability to manage change in a dynamic working environment
- Competence in environmental incident investigation and interpretation of regulatory requirements, including consent management
- Understanding of UK policy, environmental legislation, regulatory frameworks and experience in briefing senior managers and project teams on changes in legislation or policy and how these might affect their area of work
- Understanding of current local authority/government policy and future policy within relevant geographical region and how these can affect Balfour Beatty, the CRSA Alliance, customers, suppliers, communities and stakeholder requirements
- Ability to develop business cases to support the implementation of the environmental and sustainability requirements
- Ability to undertake project planning, project management and work to budgets
- Demonstrates commitment to continual learning to refine, further develop and apply expertise to add distinctive value to customers and Balfour Beatty
- Ability to train and coach project teams
- Relevant environmental or sustainability degree
- Practitioner / Full Member of the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (or equivalent)
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
- Experience in rail construction or major project based environment
- Training qualification
- Additional relevant knowledge, skills and qualifications in relevant technical area. For example:
- BREEAM Infrastructure
- Carbon Management
- Weather Resilience and Climate Change Adaptation (WRCCA)
- Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)
