We at the Civil Works Alliance (CWA) are seeking a dedicated and experienced Environmental Manager to join our team, working on the landmark Sizewell C project.

About Sizewell C: Sizewell C is poised to be a 3.2-gigawatt power station that will generate low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes, playing a vital role in the UK's quest for a sustainable energy future. This nationally significant infrastructure project will not only reduce carbon emissions but also ensure reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years.

Position: Environmental Manager Location: Suffolk with visits to London Reporting to: Environmental Lead

Your Role: As the Environmental Manager, you will provide strategic leadership and guidance to the sustainability and environmental teams within the wider SZC team. Your mission will be to deliver a culture of continual improvement, ensuring all contractual and regulatory requirements are met while promoting sustainability and environmental best practices across the project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and drive the Environmental and Sustainability (E+S) strategy for the projects.
  • Advise and guide all levels within the Sizewell C organisation, including Regional Managers, Project Managers, and operatives.
  • Manage, support, develop, and coach Environmental and Sustainability Advisors.
  • Co-ordinate specific environmental and sustainability commitments, conducting project impact assessments.
  • Manage sustainability and environmental risks and mitigation, consulting with clients, stakeholders, and regulators.
  • Produce environmental and sustainability reports for customers and internal projects.
  • Utilize reporting data, assessments, and audits to drive sustainability action plans.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Promote SZC, EDF, and Balfour Beatty values across the project.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations, company policies, and business management systems (BMS/EMS).
  • Support project teams in meeting their contractual and compliance requirements.
  • Manage E+S resources to meet project requirements.
  • Conduct E+S inspections, audits, and compliance checks, sharing learnings to improve overall strategy.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Proven experience in the Civils/Utilities industry in an environmental and/or sustainability role.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading a team.
  • Strong commercial awareness and experience in cost estimation.
  • A degree in a relevant field.
  • Proficiency in MS Office-Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to positively influence environment and sustainability within projects.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Experience in implementing ISO standards.
