Our Environmental & Planning team is based across many of Wardell Armstrongs offices including Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Bolton, Stoke, Birmingham, London & Cardiff.

We are looking to appoint a Principal or Associate / Technical Director specialising in Environmental Impact Assessment to manage and deliver projects, support and grow the Environmental team of consultants in the Birmingham office.

The Opportunity

Our EIA Team provide high quality support to projects including Wardell Armstrong provides EIA services for a range of development types, including residential development, retail, storage and distribution, renewable energy, waste facilities, utilities and minerals.

Our EIA Co-ordinators are experts in their field, and oversee and manage EIAs from a scheme's conception to the post submission phase. Wardell Armstrong is also a registrant of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) EIA Quality Mark, demonstrating our commitment to excellence in our EIA services.

We envisage the role to include:
• Day to day management including coordination of team workloads and budget management;
• Client management;
• Developing opportunities with other teams with complimentary specialist skills including ecology, landscape, air quality, noise, archaeology, heritage, engineering, waste, mining, minerals, energy and climate change;
• Develop business with our existing clients and identifying potential new clients;
• Project management of multi-disciplinary projects;
• Contribute to the Planning and EIA Service Area coordination.

We are very keen to hear from candidates who have the following qualities and experience:

  • A sound understanding of the English planning system;
  • Technically proficient with excellent report writing skills;
  • Demonstrable track record in business development and building client relationships;
  • Self-motivated with a proven ability to communicate appropriately and effectively;
  • Experience of leading a team, including development of junior colleagues;
  • Experienced project manager;
  • BEng or higher in a relevant subject; and
  • A full UK driving licence.

The position is a full-time position although part time applicants will be considered. We place emphasis on staff development and encourage self-directed study and career progression. We offer a competitive salary that is reviewed annually based on performance.
