Job title: Engineering Manager -Production Engineering Department
Location: Barrow-In-Furness. Onsite
Salary: £56,000 – £61,967 (Commensurate with skills and experience)
What you’ll be doing:

Leading and managing engineering staff or business partnerships / sub-contracts

Ensuring developed solutions are clearly defined, integrated, configured, controlled and delivered, including resolution of conflicts and integration issues that occur through development and delivery phases

Performing appropriate engineering planning, management and review activities to ensure Products are integrated, safe, and fully compliant and delivered within agreed requirements for cost, quality, time and schedule

Ensuring capability and skills development, performance optimisation and maximisation and efficient use of engineering and functional resources

Assuring the maturity of the developed solutions is appropriate for the specific requirement and that all technical risks and opportunities are captured

Ensuring all engineering activities are undertaken in line with the Operational Framework and that compliance with all engineering policies is maintained

Ensure each team member is assessed, developed, deployed and skilled to maximise their personal contribution and to meet the requirements of contracts, schedules and specifications

Identify resource requirements through the lifecycle of the project and manage engineering resource within agreed limits

Review the processes and procedures within the span of control to reduce waste, improve efficiency and establish a dynamic and flexible best in class capability

Interface and influence internal and external (customer and other stakeholders) such that product offerings meet requirements and specifications

Sign off for design, legal and technical requirements for a project or service
Your skills and experiences:
-
Degree qualified in a STEM subject and Chartered or moving towards Chartered status

Very experienced professional, ensures essential procedures are followed based on knowledge of own discipline

Subject Matter Expert in an engineering discipline. Requires technical breadth & depth, is an engineering discipline expert on projects, programmes and contracts

Assumes a good understanding of business and customer requirements

Experience of providing agile technical support to a busy build environment, identifying solutions to enable build with the design and engineering of complex steel structures

Evidence of technical leadership including checking and release of design solutions, stakeholder management and resolving complex problems

Experience of design of Jigs, lifting and handling equipment, LOLER, transportation

The Production Engineering Department:
The Production Engineering Department is responsible for the design of Steel Structures and associated lifting, handling and transportation in support of the Submarine build.
As Engineering Manager – Production engineering, you will be leading a single engineering team of moderate size. Typical team size of 12-15 staff within a single technical discipline. You will also be working with internal and external stakeholders as well as working within engineering function, build and operations.
Within this role you will have an opportunity to see the Submarine and further develop your niche skills, contributing to the national endeavour delivering a major milestone, with some great development opportunities for career progression.
