Job title: Engineering Manager – Manufacturing Technology

Salary: Up to £66,580 depending on qualifications and experience
What you’ll be doing:

Applying a breadth of knowledge, skills and experience of engineering and company approaches, techniques and governance to manages the development and adoption of future Manufacturing Technology associated with the design and build of naval ships

Selecting and developing candidate technologies for the manufacture of naval ships covering product and delivery solutions
-
Defining the qualification obligations for the assurance hold points during development/on-boarding of new Technology and providing assurance to the Head of Technology holding Technical Authority as to the adequacy and robustness of the Safety Case and supporting documentation

Overseeing the application of Lifecycle Management for the delivery of Technology projects

Supporting the development of budgets/estimates, schedules and Risks and Opportunities for a portfolio of naval ship manufacturing technology projects

Contributing to the continuous improvement of processes, designs and products in conjunction with technical experts

Resolving a range of engineering issues and problems, compiles and reviews technical reports and accompanying presentations to present manufacturing technologies as mature solutions to select for adoption in naval ship design
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
-
Experience of manufacturing within Ship building
-
Exceptional knowledge of the development of New Technology and its on-boarding for use in the defence sector or related industry
-
Detailed knowledge of the product development lifecycle and the engineering, programmatic and commercial skills required to deliver, ideally in the Concept and Business Winning part of the Lifecycle

Strong people management skills and leadership experience in a multi-disciplined engineering environment in the defence sector or related industry
-
Programme planning and tracking skills, including Earned Value Management and Risk and Opportunity management
Desirable:
-
Knowledge and understanding of the strategic direction of the business
-
Engagement to senior levels in the customer, supplier and other wider industry community
-
Priority setting and the management of conflicting priorities
Degree qualified or equivalent experience, likely to be in a technology, engineering, science or IT related discipline. Some disciplines may require a Masters level education. Chartered Engineer, or other relevant, equivalent professional registration. Member of appropriate professional institution, ideally working towards Fellow.

The BAE Systems Naval Ships Future Business and Technology team:
The Engineering team includes engineering managers, warship engineers (covering survivability, aviation, boats, operation), systems engineering (covering requirements and acceptance, supplier engagement and design data management), naval architecture (layouts, hydrodynamics, structure, outfit), power and propulsion engineers, electrical engineers (covering power, electrical systems and control), mechanical engineers, fluid systems engineers, combat systems integration engineers (integration of mission systems on naval ships), Technology engineers (introducing new technology and/or processes), safety and environmental specialists and detail designers (2D drawings and 3D models).
We work with other companies in the naval and merchant shipping sector including designers, equipment suppliers, specialist engineering consultancies and Classification Societies.
