An exciting career opportunity to join our Energy System team for an Experienced Engineering Manager supporting SSE's journey to Net Zero. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about the Net-Zero challenge. An Engineer with a proficient understanding of mechanical and/or electrical systems with experience in calculating the energy performance of designs. The team has an established track record of designing building services to deliver energy efficiency and decarbonisation across several national frameworks; currently delivering 3000tCO2 of savings annually. The growth ambition for the team, is to design, build, own and operate Energy Systems that support Data Centres, Business, Education and Health Facilities, Leisure Centres, Local Authority Buildings and Industrial Sites.

The Engineering Manager (Mechanical/Electrical) reports to the Business Manager. They are a key member of the management team responsible for leading a team of Engineers from both M&E discipline.

In this role you'll be responsible for:

  • Delivery of multiple projects across various project development stages (RIBA Stage 0-4 focused although advisory to handover)
  • Work collaboratively with the wider Operations team to ensure feasibility and robust design principles are applied to Energy Conservation Measure led Decarbonisation projects.
  • Resource manage the team, site audits and information gathering from clients
  • Leading on the development of initial strategic concepts for decarbonisation, on-site generation and energy efficiency projects
  • Producing technical or project documentation to support Project Development Managers or Construction Managers during pre and post-construction

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we'd love you to have:

  • Chartered or working towards professional registration with either the IET, iMechE or CIBSE
  • Previous consultancy experience and/or excellent technical knowledge in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering
  • Experience in the production of technical specifications including energy conservation measures, concept design, production of technical specifications, techno-economic analysis, feasibility, procurement, and project implementation
  • Ideally previous management experience of mixed discipline team
  • Proficiency with MS Excel and/or Python ability to create complex calculation workbooks.
