Engineering Development Manager

This role combines technical leadership with project management responsibilities, working with multi-disciplinary teams including hardware, electronics, firmware, and software engineers. The ideal candidate will be a strong technical leader who can facilitate complex engineering discussions, drive R&D initiatives, and ensure successful project delivery while working collaboratively with various engineering team leaders.
The role is primarily office-based with some flexible working and immediate availability.
Responsibilities:
• Lead complex engineering projects from conception to delivery, coordinating across hardware, electronics, firmware, and software disciplines
• Drive technical decision-making and innovation through expert engineering knowledge and leadership
• Facilitate technical discussions and problem-solving sessions between different engineering disciplines
• Guide and mentor engineering teams in technical matters while collaborating with functional managers
• Work with other areas of the business to translate customer and product requirements into detailed technical specifications across multiple engineering disciplines
• Manage project schedules, risks, and dependencies while ensuring efficient resource allocation
• Drive R&D initiatives and technical innovation across the engineering organisation
• Coordinate with engineering team leaders to ensure alignment on technical direction and project goals
• Lead continuous improvement in development processes and methodologies
• Report directly to the Engineering Director on project progress and technical initiatives
Essential Requirements:
• Significant engineering experience with proven success in a technical leadership role
• Strong technical background with proven expertise in one or more engineering disciplines (hardware, electronics, firmware, or software)
• Experience leading complex technical projects involving multiple engineering disciplines
• Proven track record of driving technical decision-making and innovation
• Strong system-level thinking and ability to see the bigger technical picture
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to influence without direct authority
• Experience facilitating technical discussions and decision-making across different engineering teams
• Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field
