Location: Barrow-in-Furness, full time on-site

Salary: £35,802

What you’ll be doing:

  • Gain familiarisation with the site’s HV equipment, including its location and operational context

  • Develop a solid grounding in HV substation safety and associated Safe Systems of Work (SSoW)

  • Support the HV Operations team in maintaining HV equipment to a safe and legal standard, in line with the manufacturer recommendations and industry best practices

  • Complete a structured training logbook, with guidance from a HV Senior Authorised Person (SAP) or HV Authorised Person (AP), covering all site HV maintenance activities

  • Present completed training logbook to the Site HV Authorising Engineer for review and participate in a follow-up interview

  • Perform maintenance and support tasks on a range of HV equipment, including distribution transformers, HV switchgear, and rotary frequency converters

  • Assist in Aeronautical Ground Lighting (AGL) repairs and support the AGL AP with isolations and other related tasks

  • Progress toward gaining HV SAP status through a structured experience and development activities

Your skills and experiences:

  • HNC or ONC in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent qualification)

  • Basic IT skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, Maintenance Management Systems)

  • Experience working with High Voltage (HV) equipment

  • Hands-on experience maintaining electrical switchgear

  • Knowledge of understanding of Senior Authorised Person (SAP) responsibilities and procedures

The High Voltage Maintenance Team:

This is an exciting opportunity for those looking to progress towards becoming an Authorised Person(AP) in High Voltage operations. As a HV Technician, you’ll gain hands-on experience with complex HV systems including switchgear and rotary frequency converters, while being mentored by experienced HV SAP’s. You’ll complete a structured training logbook, working toward formal AP authorisation through real-world tasks and scenario-based assessments. Alongside HV duties, you’ll deepen your knowledge of the Aeronautical Ground Lighting (AGL) system and begin the journey to becoming an AGL Authorised Person. This role also offers the chance to lead and coordinate HV Electricians and contractors on-site, making it a key development step in a highly specialised and safety critical field. We offer relocation support across all Submarine roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria
