Our firmMyerson is a Top 200 UK Law Firm as recognised by The Lawyer. We are also proud to be ranked `Top Tier` by The Legal 500, commended by The Times `Best Law Firms 2019 and 2023` and named `Health & Wellbeing Champions` at the Manchester Legal Awards 2023.

We are one of the largest independent law firms in the North West, a bold claim we are proud to make because it`s been hard won. No instant growth through acquisition or merger. Instead, growth earned from our day-to-day endeavours, an entrepreneurial approach to doing business and a rock-solid reputation.

We recruit staff who are motivated by our core values and have an affinity to our collegiate and independent ethos.

The team

Our Employment team provides the highest level of advice to a large portfolio of clients, primarily commercial clients (from owner managed to FTSE 100 businesses) but also senior executives and individuals who need support with complex employment issues.

Our successful and professional team of solicitors includes three Partners and has a wealth of experience. The team receives praise each year from the Legal 500 directory which has described the team as "excellent" and which recommends all three Partners. The team was also very proud to have been nominated for Employment Team of the Year at the 2022 Manchester Legal Awards.

The team works collaboratively and with a culture of support and development for all. It also works closely with our corporate, commercial and dispute resolution teams where matters straddle these disciplines.

The role

This senior role will involve providing the highest quality advice across a diverse range of clients, supporting the continued growth of the team. We are looking for a talented and experienced Senior Associate or existing junior Partner to assist us in advising and providing excellent service to our existing clients and to play a role in generating new business for the department and the firm.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively within the team and be expected to contribute enthusiastically to the success of the department. As a senior member of the team, you will have a range of duties and responsibilities to ensure the overall success of the Employment team. In addition to typical fee earning duties, you will assist the Head of Department and other Partners in supervising and leading the team, and have input into the future strategic direction of the department. This role offers the right candidate an opportunity to progress within our Employment team to a senior leadership position within the firm.

Typical duties of the role will include:

  • Delivering legal support across the full range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters including equality and discrimination; reorganisations and redundancies; restrictive covenants; TUPE, corporate support and Tribunal claims.
  • Acting for employers (from listed companies to SMEs and OMBs) and senior employees, as well as working closely with our corporate, commercial and dispute resolution teams on matters that need cross-disciplinary expertise.
  • Gaining an understanding of clients` requirements, then providing prompt, clear and pragmatic advice, always focused on achieving their objectives.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients.
  • Delivering client training (legal and skills training) as well as involvement in the team`s knowledge program and keeping abreast of changes in legislation, case law and best practice.
  • Playing a leadership role within the team and wider firm - mentoring junior members of the team and providing supervision.
  • Active involvement in marketing and business development activities to promote our employment law team, the wider firm and MyersonHR, our premium HR and employment advice retainer service.
  • Ensuring proper file management, accurate time recording and timely billing.
  • Maintaining confidentiality in line with the firm`s policies and procedures; including dealing with confidential documents.
  • Promoting and complying with legislation and Myerson`s policies on equal opportunities and health and safety both in the delivery of services and the treatment of others.
  • Acting as an ambassador for Myerson and its core values.
  • Identifying and undertaking training and development as required in order to meet personal, SRA and business needs

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an experienced Senior Associate or existing junior Partner with strong Employment experience with either a national or top tier regional firm.

Candidates are required to have exceptional knowledge of all areas of employment law, the ability to find sound solutions to complex legal and employment issues and provide high quality advice representing a leading law firm. Candidates must have an ability to both play a lead role in ongoing client matters and effectively supervise more junior members of the team.

Our team ethos requires a pragmatic and solution focused approach to our work and excellent client management and matter management skills. The ability to work well with experienced professionals, within a team orientated environment is essential, as is the ability to work independently using initiative.

Candidates will need to demonstrate the ability to maintain strong client relationships and the ability to promote the Employment team and other legal services offered by the firm to existing and new target clients and obtain referrals from contacts and referrers.

A candidate with top quality contacts and connections in the employment law market and, ideally, a degree of client following would be preferable (although this is not essential).

As an award-winning law firm, we are passionate about finding eager, knowledgeable individuals and supporting them to become leaders in their field. We are strong advocates of a successful work/life balance, finding forward-thinking individuals with enthusiasm for their role.
