Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30-17:00 (flexibility required to work an evening shift as required to support the operation)

Key responsibilities:

Trade Unions:

  • Build and maintain relationships with Trade Unions and their representatives
  • Engage in collective bargaining with union representatives to negotiate and implement collective agreements
  • Mediate and resolve disputes between management and union representatives, aiming to maintain a harmonious working relationship
  • Ensure that both management and the union adhere to the terms outlined in the collective agreement, including grievance procedures, disciplinary actions, and work rules
  • Collaborate with management to develop and update policies and procedures that align with labour laws and union agreements

Employee Relations:

  • Develop and implement employee relations strategies, policies, and programs to foster a positive work environment and promote strong employee engagement
  • Provide guidance and support to HR Business Partners and Managers on employee relations matters & effective practices including conflict resolution
  • Resolve complex employee relations issues, ensuring fair and consistent treatment and compliance with relevant laws and regulations
  • Collaborate with legal counsel, if necessary, to manage high-risk or sensitive employee relations cases and ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations
  • Proactively identify and address potential employee relations issues, conducting trend analysis and recommending strategies for improvement.
  • Partner with HR leadership and other stakeholders to develop and implement employee engagement initiatives that foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Collaborate with internal communication teams to ensure effective communication of employee relations policies, programs, and initiatives.
  • Resolving & mitigating complex/critical employee relations issues in a timely & effective manner.
  • Review and assist resolve large scale disputes with business level impact.
  • Develop strong, trusting relationships with business leaders across DHL Hubs & Gateways UK SMT, cross-divisional HR, Regional & Global HR & the JCG
  • Understand customer and key stakeholder's interests and concerns and advise direct reports, customers and key stakeholders
  • Provide technical guidance to line managers and employees

Training and Education:

  • Stay updated on changes in employment laws, regulations, and industry trends related to employee relations and ensure compliance
  • Develop and deliver employee relations training programs to educate managers and employees on policies, procedures, and best practices

You'll bring to this role:

  • CIPD - Essential
  • Experience within a unionised environment - Essential
  • Degree Level Education in Human Resources Field (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience working in Employee Relations or a similar HR role, preferably in a large organisation
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and best practices related to employee relations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organisation
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to navigate complex employee relations issues
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and customer-focused approach
  • Proficient in HRIS systems and other HR-related software
  • A safety first attitude. All employees are responsible for their own health, safety, and wellbeing, and for the health & safety of their colleagues who may be affected by their actions or failure to take action.You must conduct yourself in an orderly manner within the workplace, ensuring that correct uniform and PPE is worn when required
