Job overview

We are a busy Emergency Department based on two sites Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax and the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary seeing approximately 140,000 per annum. Both of our departments have a separate minor injury stream which runs from 08.00 - 00.00 hours daily.

The minor injury service is currently nurse led with senior clinician input on site where required.

We are looking for a dynamic, hard-working member of staff to join our friendly and pro-active nurse lead team.

Our department provides a supportive work environment and we are committed to staff development.

We are currently going through reconfiguration of both A&E departments, this is an exciting opportunity for you to be involved in the development of our minor injuries service in two brand new A&E departments.

Main duties of the job

Full or Part Time

We seek an individual who has completed their minor injury training or part way through the course, and is keen to further develop their minor injury Applications from ENP's with a minor illness and NMP qualification are also welcome.

We welcome our Ambulance service colleagues who have completed their minor injuries accredited course to apply.

The candidate can start as a junior ENP (band 6) and work through a progression pathway to senior ENP (band 7).

We are also accepting applications from senior ENP who can start the role at band 7, subject to experience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will be expected to see, treat and discharge minor injury patients attending the Emergency Department. You will need to be flexible with regards to shift patterns. You will also need to possess excellent communication skills and show the ability to exercise good clinical judgement and to develop further both clinically and academically where required, as we strive to develop our workforce and work environment, in order to meet future demands on the service.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria

  • First level Registration with NMC
  • Previous experience of formal/informal teaching of patients and staff

Desirable criteria

  • Completion of the minor injury accredited course

Knowledge, Experience & Experitse

Essential criteria

  • Substantial post-registration experience and in-depth knowledge related to the service being applied for.
  • Experience working within frailty or older people
  • Proven record of clinical leadership

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in mental health assessment
  • Wound closure and cleaning experience
  • XRAY interpretation
  • Plastering Experience

Communication and Relationships

Essential criteria

  • Ability to work in a complex, changing and challenging environment
  • Motivated to take on the challenges of developing and embedding a new role in the face of challenges this will bring
  • Able to work under pressure and to deal with emergency situations safely and effectively
  • Ability to maintain accurate and up to date records

The Trust will administer the DBS check on your behalf and will recover the cost (Enhanced £42.90, Standard £22.90 or Basic £22.90) from your salary when you commence in post (including Internal staff). You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service and pay the £13 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment.
