G10 SCP SCP 34-39: £42,403 - £47,420 per annum (plus £3,000 market supplement)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our busy electoral services team. You will work in a small team which is responsible for compiling an accurate register of all eligible electors in the areas, implementing statutory procedures surrounding the registration of electors and absent voters along with the administration of free and fair elections and referendums in accordance with complex legislation. Electoral Service is a front-line service, supporting the citizens of Walsall, working with a range of different customers and stakeholders. You will have a professional, friendly and polite manner.

As the Electoral Services Deputy Manager, you will have extensive experience in supporting the management and delivery of complex projects with a rich background of working at a senior level in Local Government. You will also support the Electoral Services Manager in the day to day operations of Electoral Services in relation to the planning and logistical operations of the annual electoral registration canvass; the publication of the electoral register and the administration of local, regional and national polls, ensuring that all statutory requirements are met whilst keeping the services project plan and long term strategy under review.

You will be politically aware, have a sound knowledge of election and/or wider local government legislation with the ability to interpret and apply it. You will have or be willing to work towards the Association of Electoral Administrators (AEA) Certificate of Electoral Administration. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and has the ability to lead and motivate the team to work to the best of their abilities. A customer orientated approach is essential along with excellent communication skills to engage with people at all levels of the Council.

Due to the nature of the role, during Election periods you will need to have the ability to work well under pressure and balance conflicting priorities. A flexible working attitude and the ability to work outside of normal core office hours will be essential.

All candidates should have excellent IT skills, good attention to detail, a history of managing large scale projects and possess the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
