EHS Manager:

Who will ensure Company maintains compliance with UK EHS legislation, guidance documents, company policies, permits and supporting operational audits, both internal and external.

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • To provide active guidance, support, coaching and direction to company staff and contractors in EHS programs to ensure a common and effective approach.
  • Maintain awareness of changes to UK EHS Legislation and guidance, site operational permits and licensing
  • Identify goals & objectives for the EHS department and site
  • Undertake workplace inspections, Safe System of Work audits and behavioural observations to ensure correct practices are adhered and delivering constructive feedback to maximise the prospect of the business meeting its compliance obligations and improving operational excellence.
  • Provide general EHS support across site functions and input to process safety assessments, such as HAZOP
  • Help produce Health and Safety plans, procedures, associated documentation, and check compliance
  • Lead and foster the Identification areas for continuous improvement in systems, processes and operations to proactively enhance compliance standards, working with other department leaders / EHS reps to implement corrective actions and improvement plans.
  • Maintain and manage all EHS and other relevant compliance guidance documentation, including reviewing embedded EHS requirements in other functional documents.
  • Using campaigns and creative initiatives, foster a positive safety culture.
  • Actively seek to elevate standards and awareness of EHS through delivering internal EHS training activities, including site inductions for new staff.
  • Assist with the preparations and management of the site emergency planning arrangements. Periodically assess, and where appropriate, enhance procedures
  • Support and lead the investigation and review of accidents, incidents and near miss events and manage the tracking of corrective actions.
  • Prepare EHS reports as required, including the Environmental and Social Governance Report and Science based Targets Initiative.

Requirements:

  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • NEBOSH Certificate
  • >3 years' experience in an EHS related supporting/supervisory role
  • Experience with recognising risks/hazards and ability to act effectively
  • Experience with tracking compliance metrics and data using excel
  • Experience writing documents with input from a variety of stakeholders
  • Hands on experience in a manufacturing/production role >3 years
  • Working within a highly regulated environment
  • Experience conducting and reporting EHS audits
  • Experience in Fire Safety Management
  • Understanding of waste management regulations
  • Experience with The Construction (Design and Management) (CDM) Regulations
  • Working within a GMP/regulated environment
  • Implementation of EHS improvement initiatives
  • Interfacing with regulatory bodies/inspectors
  • Supervising and/or permitting employee/contractor work activities
  • Operating under a Safe Systems of Work Arrangement
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across all levels from shop floor to senior management
  • Broad understanding of UK EHS compliance requirements and practices in a manufacturing/laboratory environment

Pharmaron acquired the Hoddesdon campus, consisting of several purpose built scientific and administrative buildings together with a purpose built conference area in February 2017. The research building has more than 5,000m2 of premier R&D space and houses an established Process Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry and Drug Discovery teams. In addition, a Formulation Development team was also recently established. The Hoddesdon site has state-of-the-art Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standard facilities for the development of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API), Formulation Development (FD) and Process Chemistry (PC).
