Service Manager - Economic Strategy
We are seeking a dedicated professional to oversee the Economic Strategy Team and its work. As part of the Employment, Skills and Economy leadership team, you'll bring your expertise and passion to lead the development of strategic plans, initiatives and policies for the Economy Skills and Culture Service and the wider City Futures Directorate.
This high-performing team delivers a range of functions including policy support and development; strategy development; project development and management; data modelling and analysis. The team works closely with and supports Elected Members, city partners and is often tasked with delivering key political priorities. The team works with a wide range of stakeholders, building strong relationships with colleagues across the Council and organisations and individuals external to the Council.
The Economic Strategy team led on the formation of the City Goals with our stakeholders and have been instrumental in the development of the Growth Plan, and critical initiatives such as Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District and the Economic Recovery Fund.
You will support further development of policy and projects that deliver economic growth, improve social and economic inclusion and support cohesion of the activities of the directorate. You will support delivery teams, to design, pilot and deliver programmes, as well as monitor outcomes and performance. The team also plays an important role in supporting senior leaders and Councillors.
This position calls for a leader and specialist in the field who can inspire, engage, and influence internal and external partners. You will be adept at developing integrated ways of working, ensuring value for money, and quickly building connections with people. Your ability to listen to others and build solutions accordingly, combined with your strategic, tactical, and emotional intelligence, will ensure you are a collaborative and encouraging leader who can strengthen connectivity across the council and develop relationships with Councillors, senior leaders, national agencies, stakeholders, and businesses.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
