Sun Originals is a brand new video production studio making premium series for The Sun, Sun Sport and Fabulous brands. Creating, developing and producing a slate of brand new original shows, the department is tasked with delivering huge new audiences, developing a raft of famous new faces and helping to deliver The Sun to its next generation of viewers.

This is your chance to lead that change redefining how content is created and consumed, contributing to innovative fast paced, agenda setting video output that drives traffic and revenue, as we redefine how a brand at the heart of the nation's conversation finds innovative new ways to tell the stories that matter in the fast-paced digital world.

Role Overview:

As our most senior leader in video, you will lead the charge to make The Sun the world's most successful video brand in News.

The Director of Video at The Sun will spearhead both our Sun Originals and Sun News Video teams. Your teams will pivot The Sun towards a video-lead approach future.

Working with The Sun's senior leaders, you will help kick-start this iconic British news brand's exciting next phase, building affinity and engagement with huge new young audiences. You will oversee the creation and production of all Sun News Video output and be responsible for our exciting Sun Originals slate of exclusive new shows.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director of Digital (Editorial), you will build and oversee a team of brilliant video natives.

  • Strategic Leadership: You will build a bold and clear plan to supercharge video at The Sun.
  • Innovation in Video: You will oversee the creation, development, production, and exploitation of brilliant hit videos and a standout slate of original, unmissable shows.
  • Talent-obsessed: You will identify, recruit, and develop a new generation of Sun Influencers, our on-screen reporters and presenters who will explain today's news and entertain young global audiences with unmissable content.
  • Monetization & Partnerships: You will work closely with our commercial team to craft must-partner original shows that our advertisers are excited to sponsor.
  • Leading Video: You will inform and empower leaders across the business, acting as an evangelist for the power of original video.
  • Team Leadership: You will lead by example - with positivity, encouragement, organisational prowess, and editorial flair.
  • Senior Stakeholder Management: You will have to manage relationships with The Sun Editor-in-Chief and the Executive Board, including presenting to the CEO.

Ideal Candidate: This is a big job for an ambitious and principled video superstar.

  • Experienced and Effective: You will be a senior leader with extensive experience in original video creation, production and distribution. You will have led significant teams to sustained success across multiple video platforms.
  • Creative Powerhouse: You will have created and produced hit shows that have driven audience and income on video platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, Snap and TikTok,
  • Visionary Leader: You're not just following trends; you're setting them. You have a track record of leading digital innovation, particularly in video content creation and distribution.
  • Journalistic Integrity: You will have deep knowledge of journalistic principles and be able to sustain best practice in news gathering and publishing.
  • Data-Driven Approach: You will possess a deep understanding of data analytics in video publishing and be brilliant at identifying opportunities through proactive data analysis.
  • Creative Boss: You will be able to spot opportunities for exclusive stories and breakthrough talent a mile off, and you will have the spirit and tenacity to ensure they are championed to a successful conclusion.
