The Role
With the British Business Bank playing a central role in the government's drive for growth, this is a key senior role within the Bank's Strategy, Policy and Economics team overseen by the Chief Strategy Officer.
Working closely with colleagues across the Bank, the Strategy and Policy Director will lead on a wide range of issues and projects focused on helping companies in the UK get access to the capital they need to start, scale and grow in the UK. The role will include developing the Bank's forward strategy, managing the Bank's day-to-day relationship with government, developing new access to finance solutions to meet government priorities as well as implementing our strategic approach to fiscal events and running those negotiations. The role will provide advice to the Bank's Executive Committee and, where required, the Board across these responsibilities.
Drawing on the in-depth insights provided through our extensive research activities and knowledge of finance markets, the position also plays an important role developing and delivering on the Bank's objective as a 'Centre of Expertise' for government on small business finance policy. Through that role the postholder will provide advice and support to Government on questions around small business finance.
To be considered for this role you will have a background in economic policy and/or demonstrable understanding of the financial services sector as well as an understanding of the economic context and challenges facing UK SMEs.
You will have extensive experience in leading strategy and policy projects of a complex nature with strong project management skills and experience leading multiple projects and managing multiple senior stakeholders with divergent agendas.
You must have a proven ability to work with senior stakeholders in a complex environment and a track record of delivering to high standards along with experience attracting, developing and retaining talent including providing high quality line management to talented junior colleagues.
An understanding of and interest in how Government departments work as well as wider economic policy would be a distinct advantage as well as having a strong professional network across active UK SME lenders.
