This role can be based in the UK or Denmark.

The Position

The Director of Engineering will lead and oversee the engineering department, driving innovation, efficiency, and excellence in the design, development, and delivery of wind energy products and services. This role is pivotal in ensuring that engineering practices align with company goals and industry standards, fostering a culture of technical leadership and operational excellence. This role requires a strategic leader with a blend of technical expertise, business acumen, and leadership skills.

This role plays a pivotal part in driving technological advancements, ensuring safety and quality, all while simultaneously delivering state of the art engineering to advance our offerings.

Key Accountabilities

Leadership:

  • Develop and execute the engineering strategy to align with the company's overall business objectives and growth plans.
  • Lead and inspire a team of engineers, providing direction, support, and mentorship to foster professional growth and high performance.
  • Leverage a history and knowledge of renewable energy engineering to help solve the most challenging problems and provide input to the technical roadmaps.
  • Leverage cross functional engineering participation to enhance business outcomes.
  • Communicate strategic input, progress and challenges to management.

Engineering Operations:

  • Oversee the design, development and testing of control system, hardware and robotics products, ensuring they meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Drive innovation in product design and engineering processes to enhance product performance and market competitiveness.
  • Inject engineering expertise and knowledge to software products.
  • Enhance our services offerings with subject matter expertise and engineering know-how

Quality:

  • Ensure processes are in place and followed to ensure safety and quality engineering
  • Drive a safety and quality mindset within the team
  • Lead design reviews, and approve designs and test plans for delivery

Stakeholder Management:

  • Participate in robust collaboration with R&D, product managers, services managers and other stakeholders to support their needs with the engineering skillsets and function.
  • Maintain a culture of collective success across all engineering, product and services teams oriented to the common goal.

Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of wind energy technology, including turbine design, systems integration, and performance optimization.
  • Knowledge of solar and energy storage technology a plus.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to wind energy and engineering.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools relevant to engineering projects.
  • Awareness of current trends and advancements in renewable energy technologies and engineering practices.

Skills

  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Also ability to lead through influence
  • Technical Expertise: Strong technical background with expertise in wind energy systems, engineering design, and product development.
  • Project Management: Proficiency in managing complex engineering projects, with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and implement strategic plans that drive innovation and align with business goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field; a Master's degree or higher is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the wind energy or renewable energy sector.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing engineering teams and projects.
  • Ability to travel 10-20% of the time
