Main purpose of role:
The Director of Delivery is a senior leadership role accountable for the successful delivery of all technology projects and products across the Content Supply Chain & Distribution portfolio. The main purpose of this role is to establish and mature a robust delivery function that provides a single, unified view of our roadmap, resources, and finances. You will be responsible for the entire delivery lifecycle, from supporting and in some cases leading business case creation through to project scoping, execution and benefit realisation.
This role is fundamental to optimising our operations, managing costs, and ensuring technology delivery is directly aligned with ITV's strategic business outcomes as well as our broader group Technology portfolio management function.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Stakeholder Management:
- Lead, manage, and develop the delivery team, fostering high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Act as the primary interface with senior stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment.
- Drive initiatives to reduce technology platform and service 'cost to serve,' aligning with departmental cost-saving objectives and ITV's 'spending wisely, saving widely' ethos.
Portfolio & Delivery Governance:
- Develop and manage a unified technology initiative portfolio, creating a cohesive roadmap.
- Establish and run the department's portfolio and roadmap management process, ensuring alignment with strategic KPIs and business outcomes.
- Implement a consistent reporting framework for progress, dependencies, and budget, providing data-driven updates to senior ITV stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to standardized delivery management approaches and existing governance structures (Group Technology and Transformation Management Office).
- Champion and embed agile ways of working for improved delivery flow and efficiency.
Supplier & Contractor Management:
- Establish and govern a central function for managing all departmental third-party supplier contracts.
- Own the renewal schedule, manage budgets, and serve as the primary commercial contact for supplier contracts.
- Oversee the end-to-end process for 3rd party resources and contractor management (approvals, budget tracking, extensions), providing a consolidated view of spend aligned with project budgets.
Financial & Resource Management:
- Take overall responsibility for delivery portfolio financial planning, including budgeting, forecasting, and tracking actual spend against milestones.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive resource management framework for project-based roles (Project Managers, Business Analysts, Architects) to effectively map work to capacity and optimize team structure.
Strategic Capability & Risk Management:
- Lead the 'front-end' of the delivery lifecycle, owning project scoping, business case creation, and outcome definition.
- Proactively manage strategic capability gaps, especially in critical broadcast skills, by building relationships with specialist SIs and contractors for effective project resourcing.
- Identify and manage cross-functional risks and dependencies, breaking down barriers and facilitating resolutions for smooth delivery.
Minimum criteria:
- Degree level qualification or equivalent professional experience.
- Substantial experience delivering projects and products using both Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
- Demonstrable experience in stakeholder communication at board, steering group and working group levels.
- Direct experience managing a portfolio of projects across multiple teams.
- Demonstrable experience in formal supplier and contract management.
- Proven leadership and line management experience
Key criteria:
- Proven experience in a director level delivery or portfolio management role, successfully delivering complex technology projects and products, ideally within a broadcast, media, or content supply chain environment.
- Demonstrable experience in establishing and running a Portfolio Management Office (PMO) or a similar delivery governance function.
- Extensive experience in managing the complete lifecycle of significant third-party supplier contracts and large budgets.
- Strong financial acumen, with proven experience in project budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Experience in balancing multiple priorities and navigating ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team of delivery or project managers.
- The ability to work well in a team environment.
- Exceptional interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and persuade at all levels of an organisation.
- Experience in transitioning teams and projects between waterfall and agile methodologies. An enthusiasm and willingness to embrace changes in technology and workflows as we transform our content supply chains.
