Director of Cyber Security

The University of Surrey is seeking Director of Cyber Security to join the CIO Executive team and oversee the protection of university data, IT systems, and digital assets.

The role defines appropriate policies and standards, oversees information security strategy and improvement initiatives and ensures the university remains a resilient organisation, resistant to cyber-attack and hostile activity.

Role & Responsibilities:
The Director is responsible for risk management, regulatory compliance, and leading incident response efforts in the event of security breaches, including incident investigations. Additionally, you'll work closely with other University senior managers to align security initiatives with business goals, promote a culture of security awareness, and manage resources to effectively safeguard the organisation's information infrastructure.

Key responsibilities include :

  • Accountability for the University's cyber security strategy, direction and vision and ensuring alignment with the organisation's objectives and risk appetite.
  • Implement and drive policy changes to promote business resilience and security of operations.
  • Work with technical teams to ensure cyber security services delivered internally conform to our security policies, principles, and standards, and mitigates risks and vulnerabilities.
  • Establish and maintain a security programme working with the IT Services PMO following a secure by design approach to ensure information assets, associated processes, technology, applications and systems are adequately protected within the ecosystem the University operates.
  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure threats to students, staff and suppliers are addressed effectively and expeditiously. Ensure appropriate response to security incidents and drive continuous improvements by learning from them.
