The Role

We are a leading multi-disciplinary consultancy (Quantity Surveying , Dispute Resolution, Expert Witness, Forensic Planning & Delay Analysis, Legal, Building Surveying ) offering services to Clients (Employers, Funders, Main Contractors and Sub-Contractors) throughout the construction industry.

We are looking for a Senior Consultant to be part of the Surety team at Gateley Vinden where you will undertake the specialized task of acting as a mediator between insolvent contractors or subcontractors and their clients within the Surety market.

You will be responsible for:
• Providing expert services and advice to the Surety market in collaboration with the Gateley Legal surety team
• Conducting desktop reviews of contractors' obligations and entitlements across various cases, requiring a good understanding of contractual matters and claims
• Stepping into the role of an insolvent contractor or subcontractor to resolve outstanding financial accounts and ensure equitable settlements
• Managing disputes, including corresponding with solicitors to address and resolve legal challenges efficiently
• Writing detailed and clear reports that are crucial for communicating case statuses, findings, and recommendations to Surety clients
• Being client-facing, which involves reviewing contract bonds and documents, conducting site visits to evaluate progress, and liaising with insolvency practitioners
• Advising employers on contractual entitlements following the termination of contracts, and reviewing damage claims made against Sureties
• Negotiating the settlement of claims and maintaining communication with all involved parties, including instructing solicitors when necessary

The Person

  • Ideally RICS qualified
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work as an individual, and undertake desktop reviews of contractor's obligations and entitlements on multiple cases
  • Commercial management experience within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 main contractor
  • Good understanding of contractual matters and claims
  • Ability to manage disputes and correspond with solicitors
  • Good report writing skills are essential
  • Ability to establish relationships with claimants to efficiently address and settle claims
