The role of Director of Accounting & Financial Control is really important to us.

This position reports to the Director of Finance, leading a team of around 25 finance professionals in providing best in class financial control to the £4.5bn p.a. turnover Fuel business unit, along with business partnering the various Group Cost functions.

The team, based in Crewe, provides insightful management information to leadership in 11 countries as well as providing a vital control function to the business, supporting the business to grow at c.10% p.a.

Your responsibilities day to day will be...

  • Run and manage the team responsible for monthly balance sheet control. With over £1 billion of reported assets, this is an important activity for the Group as a whole.
  • Drive change and transformation of the Fuel accounting processes.
  • Delivery of the agreed plan for A&FC (incl. the areas below).
  • Own the 13-week cash flow process for Fuel, making process and accuracy improvements as we move through our working capital cycle.
  • Work with other finance teams to ensure accurate reporting and a timely close process (Financial Analysis, Accounts Payable & Systems).
  • Manage the Group Cost function end to end, including Budget, performance against Budget and forward looking in year management of Group Costs. Be the key point of contact for board level stakeholders.
  • Own the below Gross Margin budget assumptions for Fuel including being the lead contact for the 5 Year Budget.
  • Continually challenge the existing status quo for finance process, and drive efficiency and accuracy improvements across all levels.
  • Own the statutory reporting process for the Fuel and Group legal entities, as well as the consolidated group accounts.
  • Act as the key point of contact for the audit process, including reporting into the audit committee on management judgements and technical accounting areas.

Experience / qualifications required:

  • Qualified accountant, preferably Practice trained, with significant PQE.
  • Strong track record in Financial Control, process improvement and technical accounting
  • Experience within a large, corporate, finance environment.
  • Experience of providing business insights to key stakeholders.
  • Experience of leading a team of finance professionals.
  • A highly driven and energetic individual who is passionate about making an impact upon the business.
  • Experience of designing and implementing first-class financial processes.
  • Proven track-record of major process redesign.
  • Experience of working within a fast-growing entrepreneurial business environment.
  • Ability to produce board-level quality reporting and analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
