Overview of Boots Digital and our role:

Welcome to the Boots Digital team - an exciting team at the heart of Boots UK's growth plans. As customers are changing, so are we! We're focusing on really understanding our customers' needs and making the most of our great products and services to optimise the online shopping experience and drive growth.
The Digital eCommerce Implementation Team sits at the heart of Boots.com with responsibility for the exemplary operational planning, testing, sign off & implementation across all customer channels.
This role sits within the Digital Implementation team and will report to the Cutover Lead. It will be responsible for leading the planning, governance and control framework required to support a major digital transformation project, ensuring teams across Digital, IT, Business Planning, delivery tribes and third parties are aligned, prepared and working to a single joined-up plan.

About the opportunity

As the Cutover Planning & Governance Lead, you will lead the planning, governance, and readiness activities that underpin a successful cutover. You will establish the frameworks, controls, and evidence needed to ensure cutover is delivered safely, efficiently, and with minimal risk.
Working across multiple teams and stakeholders, you will ensure all cutover activities are thoroughly planned, rehearsed, governed, and communicated, driving organisational readiness and a smooth transition to go-live.

Responsibilities

  • Own the integrated master cutover plan for a major digital transformation project.
  • Establish and manage cutover governance, including planning forums, readiness reviews, RAID, decision tracking, success/failure metrics and escalation routes.
  • Maintain the single source of truth for cutover status, reporting, artefacts, runbooks, communications and dependency tracking.
  • Coordinate inputs from Delivery Leads, Product Owners, Business Planning, IT and third parties into a joined-up view of readiness, confidence and progress.
  • Support rehearsals, runbook development, go/no-go preparation and senior reporting with evidence-based planning and supplier readiness.
  • Own the cutover communications approach, including stakeholder updates, execution comms and escalation messaging.
  • Ensure cutover documentation is controlled, versioned, accessible and suitable for planning, rehearsal, go-live and post-cutover review.
  • Work closely with the Operational Readiness, BAU Transition & Hypercare Lead to ensure BAU protection, operational readiness and hypercare plans are reflected in the overall plan.

About you

You will be a strong planner, communicator and problem-solver, with the ability to bring structure and clarity to complex delivery environments.

You will be confident working across multiple teams and stakeholders, able to challenge constructively, and comfortable turning ambiguity into clear plans, actions and ownership.

You will also have:

  • Strong planning and governance experience in digital, technology, business planning or transformation environments.
  • Excellent ability to turn ambiguity into structured plans, runbooks, ownership, milestones, actions and measurable success criteria.
  • Strong RAID, dependency management, third-party coordination, runbook control, cutover communications and delivery reporting capability.
  • Confidence working cross-functionally across Digital, IT, Business Planning, delivery teams and third-party suppliers.
  • Ability to challenge weak plans, unclear ownership, unresolved dependencies, supplier gaps or unclear success measures constructively.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide clear updates across senior stakeholders, delivery teams and third parties.
  • Excellent attention to detail, while keeping sight of the wider cutover picture.
  • A calm, pragmatic and structured approach, especially when working under pressure or managing competing priorities.
  • Experience using planning and delivery tools such as Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, Smartsheet, MS Project or similar would be beneficial.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with a desire to build a cutover approach that is clear, controlled and scalable.

Please note: with our digital channels available for customers 24 hours a day, working times may vary at key points in the transformation lifecycle, including rehearsals, go-live activity and early-morning or out-of-hours support where required.
