About the role

Base Location: Flexible Scotland | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSEN offices or depots around Scotland.

Salary: £45,400 - £68,200 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Our Safety Health and Wellbeing (SHW) function helps our teams across SSE to deliver this and ensure that we get everyone home safely at the end of the working day.

The Development Safety & CDM Manager is a highly technical, competent, professional role within the SHW team that provides proactive and pragmatic occupational safety and CDM advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders during the pre-construction phase of large capital projects within the Offshore Directorate.

Your responsibilities include:

- Providing onshore and offshore Safety Leadership and CDM expertise to Projects to ensure the successful implementation of the Safety Management System during pre-construction / development.

- Working in close partnership with Project Management Teams to ensure CDM strategies are developed before handing over to Delivery teams to execute safely during the construction phase.

- Managing the team of Development Safety & CDM Advisors helping to foster a positive culture towards a healthy, happy and safe workplace while ensuring deliverables are met on time and to a high standard.

- Overseeing safety and CDM compliance during any site activities conducted during the pre-construction phase (e.g. surveys)

- Effectively identifying and mitigating onshore and offshore risks associated with the work with a focus on Safety by Design.

The role requires travel within Scotland.

What do I need?

- You should have experience in safety management on onshore and offshore construction projects, with a pragmatic, flexible, people centred approach.

- You should hold a NEBOSH Diploma or relevant equivalent and be able to demonstrate practice of knowledge through experience. Be, or working towards becoming, a Chartered Member of IOSH.

- You should have sound knowledge and application of Health & Safety legislation, in particular Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015.

- You'll demonstrate professional internal and external stakeholder management skills to drive cross business collaboration to build a high performing, commercially and customer focused safety culture.

- You should be an excellent communicator with a natural ability for building and maintaining relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. You'll have the ability to use a wide range of techniques to influence change at all levels of the organisation and will possess a well-structured, systematic approach with the ability to identify and analyse complex technical issues and understand risks in order to provide appropriate solutions.

- Due to the nature of travel associated with this role, a valid UK Driving Licence is essential.
