What you will be doing:

An opportunity has arisen for a Design Manager to join the team at Galliford Try within our Oak Specialist Services Business.

Ideally, you will based in or around the Solihull area and will have opportunity to travel within the region.

  • Identify design requirements for the bid from the clients brief
  • To deliver the correct design by realising the design opportunities and mitigating the risks to ensure bid winning solutions or projects can be delivered
  • Develop and compile the design proposals for inclusion within the contractors documentation
  • Select and assess design team or if novated undertake appropriate checks
  • Appoint the design team, agree schedules of responsibilities and fee agreements for services/design deliverables and resourcing requirements
  • Manage the Design Team, the design development and design review process
  • Manage and monitor performance of consultants to liaise with Statutory Bodies or Statutory Authorities for compliance sign off
  • Undertake regular site inspections to make sure the built product meets design intent and take appropriate action if not
  • Manage and monitor design delivery against agreed deliverable dates, and report to SDM on performance issues
  • Be fully aware of project budgets, decision making and management of 'design creep' in consultation with PM & QS
  • Be responsible for developing the design programme with consultants and planner for bids or projects.

About You:

  • Maintain working knowledge of industry standards & technical innovations
  • Ability to influence the design, without designing
  • To have a flexible and positive approach towards change
  • Be a strong influencer, organised and methodical
  • Likely to have 5 years experience in this or a similar role
  • The candidate will be ideally Bachelor Degree qualified or above
  • Holding the relevant chartered Membership of a Professional Institute or working towards gaining membership
  • CSCS card will be required
  • Functional decision making to manage external design consultants and design process to gain compliance against clients and statutory requirements.
  • Strong problem solving skills, innovation aligned to commercial restrictions / awareness
  • Promotes innovative ways to add value and reduce costs within the team
  • Internal and external communications are effectively managed to ensure content is relevant and understood by the recipient, be able to influence with sound knowledge and reasoning.
