With a strong understanding of the design management function within a main contractor organisation you will be able to lead the design process from cradle to grave. You will have a technical design background and be a problem solving decision maker.
You will be an excellent communicator across all levels and be able to negotiate with both client and supply chain teams.
With an excellent eye for detail you will be passionate about quality and good design whilst understanding BECK's contractual obligations. You will play an active role in managing sub-contractors, sub-consultants and the client team to ensure responsibilities are met without exposing the business to unnecessary health and safety, financial or delay risk.
Being a proactive multitasker you will be capable of prioritising activities both for yourself and others, working to tight deadlines and doing what is necessary to ensure the success of your project.

Main Responsibilities
List of tasks and how these tasks should be delivered
- Production of a design responsibility matrix
- Identify & design out risk inputting into the design risk schedule
- Challenge buildability and cost effectiveness of consultant and subcontractor design.
- Set meaningful agendas, chair and minute design meetings.
- Be a gatekeeper of client change via the commenting process, highlighting and recording change to the project team.
- Assemble and manage the Design Deliverables Schedule ensuring release of design information against agreed programme.
- Provide technical support and design led solutions to site production team.
- Lead co-ordination between packages through meetings and drawing comments.
- Assist with developing and maintaining the design programme.
- Assist with production of O&Ms and as built drawings.
- Manage project the project document controller ensuring that processes and systems are adhered to.
- Have an input in sub-consultant appointments and management of performance.
- Ensure the requirements of statutory authorities and planning are met through closing out conditions and building control requirements.
- Assist surveyor with procurement of packages with design responsibilities including reviewing returns and leading design related elements of interviews.
- Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with client consultant teams.
- Line manage design co-ordinators.
- Keep active in personal development including building technology and management skills through CPD's and training.
- Control design queries with Design Team through input in the RFI process, written and verbal communication.
- Check specialist's and Design Team's drawings for errors and omissions.
- Set up and manage the information required schedule for the project.
- Ensure all parties are complying with the agreed procedure for drawing approvals.
- Be an expert in the clients brief and employers requirements.
- Manage the subcontractor design programme highlighting any delays or risk of delay to the project team.
- With the support of the MEPH manager lead MEPH co-ordination workshops with the relevant subcontractors and consultants.
- Management of the sample sign off process in line with programme.
Pre-contract Tasks, if required:
- Manage the pre-contract design phase & co-ordinate external consultants.
- Ensure tender design satisfies Employers Requirements.
- Identify & design out risk, and resolve design queries during tender period.
- Encourage innovative cost effective design solutions.
- Attend tender launch meetings & carry out site visit.
- Manage information flow between all parties.
- Maintain drawing register of tender documents.
- Attend design development meetings.
- Check specialist subcontractor quotes.
- Prepare Contractor's Proposals document.
- Check Contractors Proposals prior to submission.
- Attend tender adjudication meeting.
- Attend post-tender interviews.
- Update Contractor's Proposals to reflect agreed price and requirements
