Design Manager - Major Projects

GHD, a global leader in engineering, architecture, and environmental consulting, is seeking a talented and experienced Design Manager to join our dynamic team. This full-time role will involve the management of complex, multi-disciplinary design projects, ensuring the timely delivery of a robust design that meets client requirements, achieves satisfactory financial outcomes for GHD, and supports project team engagement and motivation.

The successful candidate for the Design Manager position will possess the following key qualifications and competencies:

• Working knowledge of the capability, typical inputs, outputs & limitations of the engineering disciplines required to undertake a project.
• Knows and implements quality management to sub-projects/packages by following Management/QA/QC plan (IDC, QA Checks etc)
• Risk Management: able to analyse team performance, predict & diffuse possible issues & resolve issues which arise effectively & with the minimum disruption
• Commercial responsibility: Is familiar with the contractual terms & operates effectively within them. Applies effective change management. Identifies and manages commercial risks and opportunities as they arise • Good organisational skills
• Good appreciation of design delivery methods using up to date digital design tools. Working knowledge of the advantages, limitations and risks of these tools. Detailed understanding of BIM processes and workflows. Uses CDEs and review tools for BIM delivery
• Experience leading discipline teams and packages for GHD or other consultant
• Demonstrated working experience delivering projects of varying complexities in different environment/regions
• Experience working for or with Contractors is advantageous

Key Responsibilities:

Project Delivery:

• Ensure the quality delivery of projects within the assigned budget and milestones.
• Ensure that all aspects of design meet GHD and client engineering design processes and standards, including any BIM requirements.
• Conduct design quality checks and reviews in accordance with GHD's quality management processes.
• Accountable for interface management between technical disciplines or packages.
• Identify and manage project technical risks, contributing to the project risk register.
• Maintain the Design Decision log and ensure that all GHD systems are updated as required.
• Conduct Interdiscipline/constructability and HAZOP reviews.
• Lead value engineering, regulatory management, and scope management.
• Provide input to the budgeting process, including forecasting resource requirements.
• Manage the design team's level of effort to align with budget requirements.
• Be accountable for the design strategy, staffing plan, deliverables, and milestones, collaborating with Project Design Leads and Discipline Design Leads as required.
• Support the Project Director and Project Manager in project financial, quality, and delivery schedule matters.
