Deputy Store Manager - VM

Location: Cannock, Staffordshire
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)
Reporting To: Store Manager
Division: Commercial Team: Retail Salary: Up to £29,000

Role Summary

In partnership with the Store Manager, the Deputy Store Manager (VM) is responsible for planning and directing the day-to-day operations of the store. This role plays a key part in developing strategies to improve customer service, drive store sales, and increase profitability. The Deputy Store Manager also implements visual merchandising programs to enhance in-store experience and support marketing initiatives aimed at growing the existing customer base.

Key Accountabilities

Stock Flow Management

  • Oversee the movement of stock from delivery to the shop floor.
  • Ensure accurate and timely stock replenishment.
  • Coordinate with warehouse and logistics teams to maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Monitor inventory KPIs such as stock turnover, shrinkage, and sell-through rates.
  • Manage back-of-house organisation for efficient stock access and flow.

Visual Merchandising

  • Implement visual merchandising strategies to enhance customer experience and drive sales.
  • Ensure compliance with brand guidelines for store layout, product displays, and promotional setups.
  • Collaborate with marketing and buying teams to align visual presentation with seasonal trends and campaigns.
  • Regularly refresh displays and in-store signage based on sales data and stock availability.
  • Train and support team members in visual standards and merchandising techniques.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Support the Store Manager in leading the team to meet performance targets.
  • Motivate and coach team members in stock handling and merchandising practices.
  • Collaborate with department heads to ensure smooth store operations and stock integrity.
  • Act as a point of contact for resolving issues related to stock discrepancies or visual non-compliance.

Team Member Requirements

Knowledge & Experience

  • Experience of operational retail processes.
  • Experience of stock loss controls and store security.
  • Experience of being a key holder with responsibility for opening and closing a store.
  • People management experience, including training, directing, delegating, and reviewing tasks.
  • Ability and experience in delivering and driving customer service in a busy retail environment.
  • Confident and comfortable making the right decisions under pressure.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Attention to detail with a flair for visual aesthetics.
  • Analytical mindset to interpret stock data and performance reports.
  • Leadership experience in a retail environment.
  • Proficient in retail management systems and Microsoft Office tools.
