Main duties of the job

As a deputy play and youth services manager you will co- lead a sub team of the larger team, leading on staffing, rotas and service delivery. Staff support including direct line management for a group of staff including 121s, recruitment, health roster and leadership responsibly.

Providing day-to-day support to team members in clinical areas
organising service delivery cover and planning will be able to continue to expand and develop the play and youth service to grow and improve.

You will have extensive proven experience of working with children and young people in a healthcare setting and be able to deal sensitively with families and colleagues in a fast-paced environment. you will Co-lead one of the three sub teams that form our larger play and Youth Services team these sub teams currently consist of
• daycare an outpatient service
• children/young people and young adult cancer services
• inpatient services

The post holder will need to be able to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the service.
• The Play and Youth Services Team are a large multi skilled workforce consisting of Registered Health Play Specialists, Youth Support Co-ordinators, Youth workers and young adult support coordinators working trust-wide with 0-25-year-olds.
• The service is led by the Lead for Therapeutic Play, Recreation and Youth Services, 2 Deputy play services managers and Team leaders who have a duel clinical and leadership role.
• You will have support and encouragement to continue to develop and learn within the team including access to ongoing learning, development and training opportunities.

As a member of the play and youth Services leadership team you will work closely with the trust lead for therapeutic play and youth services and the wider senior leadership team in the division to support opportunities for play.

You will be supported to grow and develop as part of a learning and improving team.

Active Registration with Society of health play specialists as a health play specialists' is a requirement for this role or international equivalent.

We have an exciting and rare opportunity to join the UCLH therapeutic play and youth services leadership team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic experienced registered
health play specialist to join our play and youth services team in a leadership role.

We are expanding our award-winning team with a new deputy play and youth services manager role. You will join two other part time deputies and team leaders in leading the day-to-day service.

You will support service delivery, staffing rotas, health roster and managing the referral service.

You will have a key role in service development and leading on practice development and improvement projects for BCYP and wider team.

As an experienced practitioner with extensive experience of working with babies' children young people in a variety of clinical settings you will be an advocate for BCYP accessing therapeutic play and recreation during their treatment at UCLH

Person specification

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Registered & qualified Health Play Specialist holding the Foundation Degree in Health Care Play Specialism or previous HPSC/HPSEB, Edexcel PDC/HND in Hospital Play Specialism or oversees equivalent.
  • Further training in relevant field such as neurodiversity, mental health, youth work
  • Management training modules.
  • Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development For example; Counselling Skills certificate, Supervisory Skills Training, Presentation skills., Published articles, Conference Presentations
  • Detailed knowledge of the principles and application of clinical governance.

Desirable criteria

  • Training in ;Guided Imagery, Adolescent Development, Teaching adults
  • Bachelor's Degree (or overseas equivalent) in a subject relevant to work with children and/or young people.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Extensive post qualifying, comprehensive experience of working with children and/or young people in a health care setting, in a variety of clinical areas and/or vast experience in specialised field, including individual and group work.
  • Participation in recruitment and selection procedures.
  • Experience of regularly supporting, teaching, training, assessing and supervising students and/or volunteers.

Desirable criteria

  • Management of junior staff, undertaking annual appraisals and PDP.
  • Experience of working with children and/or young people with special needs including those with challenging behaviours.

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Able to communicate complex, information sensitively and effectively with patients, families and staff, in written, verbal and non-verbal forms.
  • Supervision and training skills.
  • Word processing, Excel and internet search skills.
  • Ability to organise and respond efficiently to complex information and comprehend difficult technical and medical information

Desirable criteria

  • Training and presentation skills.
  • Counselling skills.
