We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Manchester, working as a Deputy Local Education Manager. This role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

Site Information

HMP Manchester is a Category A and B men's prison in Manchester, England. Established in 1868 and designed by Alfred Waterhouse, it is known for its iconic ventilation tower and long-standing role as a high-security facility. HMP Manchester serves as a local prison for remanded prisoners awaiting trial and sentencing, as well as those serving long-term sentences and is committed to rehabilitation, offering educational programs, vocational training, and support services aimed at reducing reoffending.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Teaching qualification - minimum Cert Ed or PGCE
  • Hold at least a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Track record of developing, leading and managing a team effectively
  • Track record of managing colleagues including the deployment of those colleagues and appropriate delegation of tasks
  • Track record of implementing and managing continuous quality assurance and improvement procedures
  • Track record of successful partnership working
  • Effective Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to motivate and enthuse teams
  • Organisational skills to prioritise workload to meet challenging deadlines and targets
  • Analysing trends and identifying impact on curriculum
  • IT skills
  • Contract management skills
  • The successful candidate must have experience delivering functional skills as the role will require management and cover of Functional Skills staff
