ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Deputy Inspection Manager reports to the Head of Inspection of Quality Services

The role will have delegated responsibility to the Head of Inspection during periods of scheduled and un-scheduled absence.

To support and supervise client projects in providing quality assurance, management and surveillance services, managing a team of 20+ Quality Surveillance Engineers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The core responsibilities of the Deputy Inspection Manager is to support effective management across all aspects of Quality Surveillance and Quality Management, ensuring safe, compliant, and effective service delivery, including, but not limited to:

Mitigation of risk for both WSP and our clients in execution of Quality Services' Quality Surveillance and Quality Management services, ensuring compliance with WSP's BMS and ISO 17020 QMS governing processes, procedures, and best practice.

  • Ensure Quality Service's Quality Surveillance and Quality Management services are delivered efficiently and effectively in accordance with WSP BMS and ISO 17020 QMS project lifecycle requirements.
  • Line supervision of Quality Surveillance Engineers
  • Identify potential areas for improvement and lead in driving service delivery best practice.
  • Support Quality Services Quality Surveillance and Quality Management activities to achieve defined delivery objectives. With particular focus on;
    • Resource Utilisation (including FTE v Contingent Labour)
    • Ensuring the Quality Surveillance and Quality Management team are achieving defined objectives.
    • Effective project time writing and expense management
    • Resource availability
    • Resource Competence and "P" Grade suitability
    • Resourcing requirements
    • Supplier Management
  • Support, as necessary, monthly project delivery and resourcing objectives review cycle
  • Support intelligence of projected workstreams and opportunities.
  • Manage Quality Services resource planning, risk, and change registers.
  • Input into Framework activities (Call-Off's, Estimates and Proposals, etc)

Additional responsibilities of the of the Inspection Manager may include, but not limited to:

  • Undertaking responsibilities in the role of a Quality Surveillance Engineer or Quality Manager, when necessary.
  • Supporting Tendering and Proposal Management activities, when necessary.
  • Supporting Technical Management activities, when necessary

We'd love to hear from you if you have the following:

Essential qualification and experience:

  • Minimum of degree level (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Leadership and teamwork skills with a strong understanding of quality assurance, control principles, and process management in projects.
  • Project Management, or Quality qualification accredited by APM (Association of Project Management) or CQI (Chartered Quality Institute).
  • Experience in a project management, quality or engineering role in a manufacturing, inspection, testing, project environment or similar.
  • Experience of managing personnel, preferably within an Inspection environment.
  • Understanding of the application of governance and commercial control systems, such as Agresso / Oracle.
  • Registered or working towards a Chartered status (Engineering, Quality, etc)
  • Skilled in influencing and providing constructive challenges accepted by others.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Desirable qualification and experience:

  • Member of a recognised Project Management, Engineering or Quality Institution
