ABOUT THE ROLE

Our culture is built on innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement, and we are now looking for a motivated and committed Deputy Head of Electrical & Instrumentation to join our Lakes Nuclear Team.

As Deputy Head of Department, you will play a key leadership role in supporting staff and learners across engineering apprenticeship programmes up to Level 3. You will ensure high-quality delivery, effective communication, and compliance with awarding body standards.

You will also:

  • Lead and motivate identified staff, supporting performance and development.
  • Oversee training quality, learner progress and curriculum materials.
  • Support the Head of Training & Education - Nuclear Skills in the development of programmes and resources.
  • Contribute to self-assessment and quality improvement plans.
  • Assist with staff timetabling and effective use of resources.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Deputise for the Head of Department when required.

You'll bring the technical expertise, industry experience and people skills needed to guide both staff and learners to success.

What you must bring:

  • Minimum of three years' engineering experience in industry within an Electrical discipline.
  • Competent in electrical engineering.
  • Level 3 qualification in Engineering.
  • Strong numeracy, literacy and IT skills.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, take initiative and maintain high professional standards.

What would be a bonus:

  • Experience delivering or developing electrical engineering courses.
  • Understanding of apprenticeship frameworks and funding processes.
  • Intermediate MS Office skills.
  • Experience in training needs analysis and programme design.
  • Assessor or teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards).

Qualifications

Have a minimum of three years engineering experience in industry. essential

Competent in electrical engineering. essential

Hold a level three qualification in Engineering essential

Good numeracy, literacy and computer skills essential

Hold an assessor qualification or be willing to work towards attaining desirable

Hold a recognised teaching qualification or be willing to work towards attaining desirable
