Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

Job overview

The Vascular division have a fantastic opportunity for a Deputy General Manager (DGM) to join our friendly, proactive team to strengthen our leadership team.

This is a key role within the division, where you will be accountable to the Deputy Director of Operations and be responsible for the delivery of clinical services within and across the Vascular division, for assessing the impact of change and making decisions, balancing risks and priorities, and for providing advice to the Divisional Management Team and on the delivery of a strategic vision, ensuring service changes meet internal and external expectations and standards.

Main duties of the job

Your role will report into the Deputy Director of Operations, where you will be working closely with the Clinical Director, Clinical Lead's and the Head of Nursing to ensure we are delivering high quality services, providing an excellent experience for our patients and meeting our regulatory and operational performance targets.

You will be supported by our strong senior leadership teams as you seek, share and drive opportunities to deliver the highest standards of clinical care whilst ensuring delivery of operational, financial and transformational agenda.

Within the division you will have accountability and responsibility for the surgical service and work closely with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure safe and effective service delivery, using your ability to engage and lead teams through change and act as an expert negotiator will be vital.

You will use your strong business management skills coupled with sound financial knowledge to deliver a selection of productivity schemes across the division.

Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Significant experience at senior level
  • Extensive Senior Management/ leadership experience
  • Effective clinical / operational management at band 8 or equivalent
  • Experience in research, audit, resource management, change management, standard setting + outcome monitoring, best practice, QI, CQC, leadership

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working in a tertiary service
  • Experience of working across regions or nationally on clinical governance/quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Relevant Master's degree or equivalent or portfolio of evidence
  • Qualification in management or leadership or equivalent.

Desirable criteria

  • Project management qualification
