Job overview
The Cancer Division is a large division with a workforce of approximately 1300 WTE and annual turnover of £240M. The Division delivers world class cancer care to patients from across the country and spans multiple sites and departments across the Trust campus. The cancer division holds operational responsibility for the Macmillan Cancer Centre and Grafton Way Building, including the proton beam centre and is responsible for 185 beds. The Division hosts and plays a leadership role in a number of regional networks including the red cell network and the sarcoma cancer network. The division also includes the cancer clinical trials unit, working closely with both UCL and the BRC to lead on the development and delivery of translational research.
This is an exciting time to join the Cancer Division due to the involvement in a number of high-profile strategic projects including the transfer of paediatric radiotherapy patients from the Marsden and a proposal to create a new Mount Vernon Cancer Centre. The Division is also leading on a number of other projects including the relaunch of the Cancer Academy, the development of an oncology acute assessment unit to improve the emergency flow of cancer patients and the expansion of radiotherapy services.
Main duties of the job
An opportunity has arisen within the Cancer Division at UCLH for a Deputy Divisional Manager. This post will provide deputy support to the Divisional Manager of Cancer Services and join a team of senior managers within the Cancer Division to deliver an ambitious strategy of ensuring UCLH becomes a world class cancer centre.

We are looking for an experienced leader who is committed to team development and who can work in collaboration with the clinical leadership team to develop a sustainable program of innovation and foster an environment and culture conducive to high impact research and operational excellence.
You will gain experience of working with senior managers and executives across the organisation, as well as across regional and national clinical networks. With line management responsibility for general managers and clinical leaders, you will take ownership for a range of improvement and performance targets, as well as leading on a range of strategic development initiatives.

Knowledge & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- High standard of written and spoken English.
- Masters level or equivalent (or in exceptional circumstance - able to demonstrate significant level of equivalent experience).
Desirable criteria
- A formal post graduate qualification, ideally in management or equivalent senior level experience.
Work Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant relevant management experience, with at least three years within the NHS or similar environment.
- Experience of service redesign and development.
- Experience of effective management of budget.
- A proven success in business planning and in the development and effective implementation of strategic plans in a complex clinical service.
- A proven record of success in successful leadership of managing complex operational change while also developing and maintaining high standards of quality.
- Experience of leading and supervising teams.
- Extensive experience of service redesign and development of teams.
- Quality focused with and innovative approach and the ability to solve complex problems.

Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of multidisciplinary issues and commitment to multidisciplinary working.

- Detailed knowledge and understanding of NHS targets and other topical NHS issues.
- A sound understanding of the issues affecting patients with cancer, professional groups working with Cancer, and research issues affecting service development.
- Project management skills.
- IT literate: proficient in the use of word processing and spreadsheet packages.
- Evidence of political awareness and sensitivity to the high profile of the Directorate and the Trust.
