We are seeking an ambitious, motivated and driven candidate to deliver upon the many opportunities this role presents. Please be aware that this is a fixed term opportunity, for 12 months, and the successful candidate should aim to start from Feb 2025.

Main duties of the job

As Deputy Divisional Manager for Interventional and Inpatient Care in the £280m turnover Queen Square Division within the Specialist Hospitals Board of UCLH, you will work with a high performing team to ensure high quality, efficient, timely and patient-focused clinical services. With a track-record of delivery of demanding agendas, you will lead your team in providing exceptional management support.

The role covers a range of specialities including neuroradiolology, neurosurgery, Neuro-oncology and private patients, Stroke, Therapies and Rehab, Pain, Critical Care and Theatres. The post is responsible for around 1,000 posts, with a budget of over £90m and will ensure the operational smooth-running of these highly complex and diverse services. As well as this, the role has oversight of a range of capital and service developments including our private patient service growth, neuroradiology reconfiguration and mechanical thrombectomy service development. The post holder will have designated responsibility for the strategic and operational management across their designated services and direct responsibility for delivery of services in line with budget.

This is a time of outstanding opportunity for the Division. Neuroscience is one of UCLH's strategic priorities, and a building programme has recently delivered new angio. suites, interventional MRI and an expanded neuromuscular complex care centre. The Division is also looking forward to the opening of an exciting facility on the Gray's Inn Road site in conjunction with UCL/DRI to open 21 new outpatient rooms and 4 new UCLH MRI scanners. Queen Square leads the world in delivering advanced neuroscience therapeutics through commercial and non-commercial trials in a dedicated clinical research facility as well as maintaining collaborative links with UCL Institutes to be world-leading in clinical neuroscience research.

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • High standard of written and spoken English
  • Educated to Degree level
  • Masters or equivalent (or in exceptional circumstance - able to demonstrate significant level of equivalent experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of a range of issues across the NHS and NHS patient agenda

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Significant experience of working at a senior management level within the NHS or similar environment.
  • Demonstrable NHS/ public sector experience and knowledge
  • Extensive experience of service redesign and development
  • Demonstrable experience of effective budgetary management and control, including achieving targets on a regular basis
  • A proven success in business planning and in the development and effective implementation of complex strategic plans
  • A proven record in successful leadership of complex operational change while also developing and maintaining high standards of quality
  • Quality focused with and innovative approach and the ability to solve complex problems
  • Experience of leadership of complex clinical services
