About the role:
As a finance function we will draw on analytical, economic and a deep contextual understanding of activity across our core education, research and service missions. Our team exists to deliver high quality financial information and provide decision support to the operations directorates of the university.
Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Finance Business Partnering (Operations), this role will lead the Operations FBP team to develop and deliver a high-quality finance business partnering and decision support to the central professional services of the university including financial planning, reporting and insight across revenue funded activity.
We are seeking to further grow financial literacy, sector/service specific awareness and advice for decision makers at King's. This will have at its core a commitment to the use of data to inform and improve long term planning, in year forecasting and financial performance in partnership with directorate and central service leadership. Bringing consistency, intelligence and a partnering approach, the business partnering service will be close to and integrated into the real activity at the college.
You will also support the Financial Strategy, Planning & Performance function in development and improvement projects. Examples include the development and definition of the FBP and management accounting roles, a professional competencies framework to support career progression and performance at all levels, supported by learning and development opportunities and improving key processes for example in staff forecasting.
As part of the function's senior management team, this role will lead a team of finance business partners who will provide outstanding partnering services to our core operational teams including Estates, IT, Students & Education, Research Management and on other crucial 'head office' activities. Working closely with the corporate reporting team on the provision of management accounts, you will work with the Director of Finance Business Partnering to lead on financial performance support in-year and across our three-year financial planning framework.
More widely, as a senior member of the finance function, you'll play a part on cross finance / college initiatives and be expected to deputise for the Director of the team as and when required.
This is a full time position offered on an indefinite contract.
About you: (the candidate)
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential Criteria
- Professional Accountancy qualification.
- Leadership skills and a service approach in your professional work. Resilient with the ability to run multiple objectives, across teams, and in complex political processes.
- Understanding of running financial planning, forecasting, and reporting in a complex and large organisation.Ability to operate and deliver change and improvements across a finance function.
- Leadership and delivery of longer and shorter-term forecasting and planning processes taking a range of stakeholders with you.Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in the written word and in person in a variety of formats including committee presentations and policy documentation, and to a range of stakeholders at different levels of seniority.
- Numerate and IT literate with the ability to use the standard suite of office software together with excellent knowledge of one or more corporate finance and reporting systems.Recent experience of leading financial support and advice functions and services in an area relevant to the role.
- Experience of delivering operating financial improvements for an organisation.Supporting teams to achieve complex and competing objectives over a variety of time horizons in partnership with other technical leads and partnered areas.
- Management and development of a team of technical/professional staff who manage their own work and activities.
- Ability to build and manage internal and external relationships.
- Self-management and ability to work independently to meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail and working to a high level of accuracy.
