We are committed to delivering a safe and reliable train service, by investing in our fleet of trains, stations and employees. As part of this investment we are looking to recruit a Deputy Area Conductor Manager, on a full time permanent basis based in Birmingham.
The Deputy Area Conductor Manager supports the Area Conductor Manager by providing management oversight of a number of specified Senior Conductor depots.
They are an escalation/resolution point for Senior Conductor Managers across these depots, as well as assisting the Area Conductor Manager with tasks ranging from attendance and disciplinary matters, to depot audits and improving performance against the Service Quality Regime and other customer service targets. They also help to manage local Senior Conductor union matters.
The Deputy Area Conductor Manager has line management responsibility for a limited number of Senior Conductors within their home depot, as well as supporting the Area Conductor Manager. Additionally Senior Conductor Managers will report as a 'dotted line' to this role.
Knowledge and Experience:
Knowledge:
- You must have experience of New Street Station
Thorough knowledge of rules and regulations relating to the working of trains - Knowledge of Senior Conductor terms and conditions
- Knowledge of West Midlands Trains operations and geography
- Knowledge of safety and quality standards including SQR
- Knowledge of Ticketing and Retail Systems
Skills
- Excellent Team Leader with the ability to motivate and coach team members
- Good communication skills (including written and oral)
- Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative
- Ability to interpret data and technical information and explain what it means to others
- Confident when dealing with difficult situations. Shows a high level of personal resilience.
- Customer-focused approach to problem solving
- Computer literate
- Ability to engage front line colleagues but also to be effectively segregated from them, while maintaining an appropriate level of two-way respect
Experience
- Experience of managing others, including as a Senior Conductor Manager or in an equivalent role
- Previous experience of working in a rail operational and customer service environment
- Able to cover on call commitments and able to act as TOLO at the site of incidents if required
