Day Assistant Producer - 12 month FTC

The Role

The role

The Day Assistant Producer is responsible for supporting the production of episodes for Daytime, including Lorraine, This Morning, and Loose Women.

They produce a number of items within the shows and conduct research chats, write accurate briefs, commission graphics, liaise with other departments within the programme and where relevant work with props to create engaging items. They must also generate ideas for the programmes as well as look after guests and experts who are appearing on the programmes in the days leading up to their appearance and on the day of.

Skills you'll need (minimum criteria)

  • Demonstrable experience and confidence in producing live, studio-based items and conducting research chats, writing briefs/scripts and working with on screen guests, presenters and experts.
  • Must possess a good understanding of current affairs, topical stories and trends.
  • Previous experience at Assistant Producer level in a journalistic environment.
  • Working experience and strong understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements. (H&S, Data Protection, OFCOM and ITV Editorial Policy).
  • Clear understanding and adherence to duty of care protocols.
  • Ideas creation and experience generating a constant stream of ideas.
  • An understanding of what social content resonates with audiences.
  • Previous experience in a live studio environment.

Creativity/Problem Solving

  • Possess a strong creative and editorial judgment for content creation.
  • Must be an ideas creator with a flair to spot trends and stories that will talk to our viewers and audiences.
  • Previous development experience and the expertise setting up new ideas from proposal stage to on-screen.
  • Proven experience to identify and resolve challenges that may arise during production.
  • Must have creative ways of telling a story and relaying information to viewers.
  • Must be able to deal with last minute changes of guests or angle of item.

Communication

  • Possess good people skills and effectively brief presenters and on screen experts.
  • Communicate clearly, concisely, and confidently across all levels, fostering good collaboration and alignment within the team and with stakeholders.
  • Has the aptitude to work in a demanding environment while keeping a calm approach and ensuring communication of creative vision with the team is clear.
  • Must be able to reassure live studio guests who may need support before appearing on the programme.

Planning & Organising

  • Experience of conducting detailed research chats and writing concise, accurate briefs and scripts in a timely manner.
  • Effectively organise tasks and workload, anticipate potential challenges and changes as required, and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.

Technical Skills & Knowledge

  • Demonstrate a broad knowledge and understanding of the sources available to obtain accurate information.
  • Understanding about obtaining clearance, filming permissions, and the requirement for consent releases, compliance, and copyright regulations - including archive, stills, property, and music.
  • An understanding of live output Gallery production.
  • Good scriptwriting skills and a good knowledge of current affairs, news and topical trends with attention to detail.
  • Excellent knowledge of compliance, legal regulations, OFCOM regulations production hazards and Health & Safety regulations.

Working with Others

  • Have confidence and drive to pitch content ideas to senior members of the team.
  • Proven experience of good team collaboration skills to direct and mentor the Day team (Researchers) fostering their growth and ensuring effective collaboration with other internal stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of production management regarding scheduling, locations, and health and safety.
  • Collaborative approach in working with the wider team.

Additional Information

  • A flexible approach to work is required as the shift pattern will include weekends and bank holidays on occasion.
  • To work flexibly across a rotational shift pattern that may include studio-based production, contribution to the morning news review, and dedicated editing shifts.
