Could you be Incommunities new Data Protection Manager? We are looking for an experienced data protection subject matter expert to build relationships with key stakeholders, promoting awareness of the importance of data protection across Incommunities. You will ensure we are compliant against the ICO Accountability Framework, as well as providing assurance to the Board. Duties include:
- Manage and deliver the Data Protection Service in a way that embeds this into our culture; proactively working with departments to raise awareness across the organisation about the importance of Data Protection and how this is integral to their role and responsibilities.
- Act as the Subject Matter Expert in advising colleagues on relevant data protection matters including but not limited to: reviewing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), Data Sharing Agreements and managing key risks relating to the processing of personal / special category data.
- Reporting to the Head of Regulation and Assurance, you will ensure compliance with Data Protection legislation through the effective implementation of our policies and procedures, conducting spot checks and undertaking reviews as the second line of defence.
- Management duties for the Data Protection Coordinator, you will oversee compliance with Data Subject Access Requests which is also routinely reported to the Board.
- Annual review of the Records of Processing Activity to help manage data protection risks as well as leading the investigation and reporting of data breaches to the ICO - identifying lessons learned to prevent future incidents.
- Lead on the drafting of the Data Protection Working Group agenda and presenting quarterly reports at this meeting.
- Assist with internal audits in this area and provide assurance to the Audit and Risk Committee - preparing draft reports for the Director of Governance and Assurance who is also the Data Protection Officer.
About you
- Have relevant experience in a similar role, with a strong knowledge around laws relating to Data Protection.
- Are firmly dedicated to ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.
- Are well organised, can prioritise workload and are confident presenting to senior leaders.
- Are a team player and able to coach and train other staff.
Requirements
- Relevant Data Protection qualification is desirable
- Extensive experience working in Data Protection - within a regulated environment is desirable
- Experience of managing people effectively and having strong inter-personal skills
- Experience of participating in Internal Audits is desirable
- Ability to apply complex legislative and regulatory guidance into practice and explain in a clear, concise way to colleagues
- Strong report writing skills for senior meetings such as the Executive and Board, including the ability to provide assurance
- The ability to provide strong second line of assurance to the business - conducting spot checks and reviewing evidence of compliance for example
- A positive outlook with the ability to prioritise and work at a fast pace
