About Us
The School of Life Course & Population Sciences is one of six Schools that make up the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine at King's College London. The Department of Twin Research & Genetic Epidemiology, one of five departments within the school, holds more than 30 years of data gathered from various sources on over 15,000 participants of its TwinsUK cohort. It is one of the most deeply characterised adult twin cohorts in the world, providing a rich platform for scientists to research health and ageing longitudinally. This role is part of the Data Team located in St. Thomas' Hospital. Hybrid working is available.
About the role
We are looking for a dynamic individual to play a key role in managing and optimising health-related research data. You will be a collaborative team player with a strong background in data management and governance, technical expertise in database development, security, and compliance.
Under the supervision of the Head of Data/IT, you will ensure secure, efficient, and high-quality data collection, curation, and access across multiple research studies.
You will manage and curate phenotypic and Omics data with precision and integrity, oversee data cleansing, harmonisation, and study setup, including participant selection and questionnaire development.
The role is also suitable for a passionate data administrator/developer and is also a great opportunity for an academic researcher/epidemiologist who wishes to pursue a data management career.
Your role will ensure seamless data linkage to public records and coordination with NHS/CAG while maintaining compliance with UK GDPR, DPA 2018, and university policies.
Representing the DTR at key data-focused meetings such as UKLLC, CLOSER, and HDRUK, you will provide crucial insights. You will collaborate closely with internal teams, including IT, Cybersecurity, Research Admin, Lab, Clinic, and Academics, to maintain and enhance data processes.
Your work will drive innovation by enhancing database functionality using existing SQL Server or PostgreSQL databases, ideally within both MS Windows and Linux environments. You will also create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures to ensure best-in-class data management.
Experience in database and application development and maintenance is a huge plus. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced research environment.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31/12/2028.
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria - Grade 6
- Master's Degree or equivalent experience in health data related area
- Experience and knowledge of Health/Clinical/genomic Data Management and Electronic Data Capture Systems and statistical packages for data manipulation and reporting
- Knowledge of and experience in Relational Database Systems including linkage, query and report design
- Strong experience with cleaning and harmonising biological and health related data and attention to details
- Experience in presenting data related reports and dashboards to varied stakeholders
- Thorough experience of proactively working under own initiative with excellent coordination and organisational skills and to meet deadlines and targets
- Proven experience in data governance and data confidentiality issues and adhering to UK GDPR and DPA 2018
- Experience developing standard operation procedures
Essential criteria - Grade 7
- Master's Degree or equivalent experience in health data related area or software/database development
- Experience and knowledge of Health/Clinical/genomic Data Management and Electronic Data Capture Systems and statistical packages using STATA, R or Python
- Expert knowledge of developing relational database systems including linkage, query and report design using SQL Server, MYSQL or similar platforms for data management
- Strong experience with cleaning and harmonising biological and health related data and attention to details
- Experience in developing dashboards and presenting data related reports from dashboards to varied stakeholders
- Proven experience in data governance and data confidentiality issues and adhering to UK GDPR and DPA 2018
- Proven experience and expert knowledge of data governance standards
- Experience in Windows and/or Linux based webserver and application development using high level programming languages
Desirable criteria - both Grades
- A specialist data/database qualification or equivalent experience of information/data handling gained in a work environment
- Familiarity with clinical and genetic terminology and knowledge of data standards and methods
- Knowledge and experience of linkage and trusted research environments using healthcare data
- Previous experience working with epidemiological or national cohort data
