A Day in the Life

As a Data Manager at Genomics plc, you will play a critical role in our Data Services team, engaging in data governance, acquisition, modelling, and analytics. Data is central to our scientists' work and the success of Genomics plc. X You will manage and curate a wide range of genomic data and metadata.

The data we process includes summary statistics including GWAS and large-scale individual-level genotypic (array-based, WGS, WES) and phenotypic data from a wide variety of sources including the scientific community, commercial partners, and data we have generated in-house.

You will acquire and manage high-quality datasets and metadata for our ground-breaking genome-derived insights, supporting healthcare providers and individuals in assessing disease risk and driving the discovery of new therapeutic targets.

In this collaborative role, you'll work closely with diverse teams and stakeholders to develop and deliver key insights to support our innovative B2B2C genomic risk result products, You will be developing and delivering metrics, KPIs, and data analytics to propel our business forward. You will also contribute to the development of logical and physical data schemas and the implementation of ontologies, ensuring effective data use by scientists.

Who You Are:

  • Broad data experience: You will be an all-rounder, but stronger experience in SQL, query-building, and modelling or genomics will be an advantage.
  • Collaborative: Working closely with our science teams, you will proactively and reactively identify and acquire new data, ensuring timely access to what they need for their analysis objectives.
  • Meticulous About Data and Metadata: Responsible for the end-to-end capture and curation of data, you will use a combination of manual trawling, in-house tools, and automated protocols to maintain accuracy and consistency.
  • Innovative: Contributing to the development of scripts and tools, you will support data management activities with your technical expertise and innovative solutions.
  • Cross-Functional Team Player: In a cross-functional team, you will optimise and evolve our data models, providing essential requirements to software development and engineering teams.
  • Problem Solver: You must have the ability to understand requirements and overcome unexpected scientific or data-related challenges.
  • Customer Service: Your experience in providing excellent service to internal stakeholders will be crucial.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Python (Pandas, APIs) for data manipulation, SQL for relational databases, and data analytics tools is required.
  • Prioritisation: You should be capable of managing multiple competing tasks across different initiatives effectively.
  • Educational Experience: A BSc or higher in bioinformatics, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience is necessary.
  • Professional Development: Evidence of ongoing professional development and staying updated with industry trends and best practices is expected.
