As a Data Governance Manager within the Deloitte UK Data Office, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing our enterprise data governance framework. This role is crucial for ensuring that Deloitte's data assets are of the highest quality, compliant with regulatory requirements, and strategically aligned to support our business objectives, including the ethical and effective use of AI and Machine Learning (ML) technologies.
You will be instrumental in fostering a data-driven culture, promoting data savviness, and embedding governance best practices across the organisation.
This position requires a forward-thinking individual who understands the complexities of data management in a large, dynamic organisation and can navigate the emerging challenges and opportunities presented by AI.
You will work closely with various stakeholders, including legal, risk, technology, and business teams, to ensure data governance policies and standards are not only established but also effectively operationalised and continuously improved.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Office Support:
- Support the Chief Data Officer and Enterprise Data Management Lead in the creation of business cases to deliver data strategy & governance improvements/initiatives.
- Support the Data Office in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Deloitte UK's data governance framework, policies, standards, and procedures, ensuring alignment with global Deloitte standards and industry best practices.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:
- Act as a primary point of contact for data governance matters, facilitating data governance committees, and communicating policies and best practices to diverse audiences.
- Drive initiatives to enhance data literacy and awareness of data governance principles and AI ethics across the organisation.
- Capture data requirements for large scale transformation programmes, through working with a broad range of stakeholders, and running workshops.
- Define and embed clear roles and responsibilities for data ownership and stewardship, fostering a culture of accountability for data assets across the organisation.
Data Quality Management:
- Assist in the development and implementation of data quality standards and controls and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to monitor and improve these standards.
Enterprise Data Management tools and technology:
- Evaluate and recommend data governance tools and technologies that support the firm's data management/data governance framework, including those that can automate aspects of AI data governance.
- Assist in managing Request for Information (RFI), Request for Proposal (RFP) for implementation of Data Governance / Data Management solutions.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of data dictionaries that are aligned to data assets, and the business glossary for the definition and maintenance of core business terms/concepts.
Regulatory Compliance & Ethical AI:
- Ensure data governance practices comply with relevant data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR) and emerging AI-specific regulations (e.g., EU AI Act principles, UK AI Regulation), addressing ethical considerations in data usage for AI.
Connect to your skills and professional experience
Essentials:
- Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in a data governance, data management, or similar role within a large, complex organisation.
- Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, principles, and best practices (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK).
- Demonstrable experience with data quality, metadata management, and data lineage concepts and tools.
- Knowledge/awareness of Data management and Data Governance technologies/cloud-based platforms such as: Amazon Web Service (AWS Glue), Microsoft Azure (Microsoft Purview), Google Cloud (Data Catalog) Collibra, Informatica, Alation, SAP MDG etc.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and drive change at all levels.
- Experience of one or more of the following methodologies: DAMA DMBOK, EDM Council, Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN), TOGAF.
- Familiarity with regulatory / statutory requirements impacting enterprise data management such as: GDPR, ESG EU Know Your Client (KYC), Anti Money Laundering (AML)
Desirable:
- Experience with data governance in the context of AI/ML, including understanding of AI ethics, responsible AI principles, and data requirements for AI models.
- Familiarity with emerging AI regulations and their potential impact on data governance.
- Experience working within a professional service.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Data Management Professional - CDMP).
- Knowledge of cloud data platforms and modern data architectures.
