The role
Millions of people visit the Rightmove website every day, to view more property listings than any other portal in the UK. We have a huge amount of data describing how people use our site, and what this means to our customers. Rightmove also has significant existing data infrastructure, across Google Cloud, on-premises and in SaaS environments.

This role will play a key part in driving the delivery of data use cases as well as the foundational build of our self-serve data platform. This role sits in a data engineering team within the Data and Analytics function comprising web analysts, analytics engineers, data engineers, and data architects. The team sits within the Product Development department, which plays a pivotal role in delivering the overall consumer and customer digital experience underpinning the Rightmove business.

We recognise that to deliver the best products and features, we need to work effectively as a healthy, high performing team. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working collaboratively across a mix of cross-functional and centralised teams, to achieve Rightmove's data and cloud strategy.

Key responsibilities:
• Get involved with line management of the team, providing technical mentorship, career coaching and personal development opportunities to Data Engineers and Senior Data Engineers.
• You'll own the agile development practices for the team, ensuring ceremonies are facilitated, organised and evaluated continuously to serve the day-to-day functioning of the team.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define the scope, requirements, and deliverables of data engineering projects.
• Oversee end-to-end project delivery, managing expectations around timelines and quality standards.
• Manage the project backlog, helping the team to create and refine tickets or epics appropriately.
• Proactively track, mitigate and communicate team inter-dependencies and project risks.
• Support the team with short - to- medium - term planning i.e. at the sprint and quarterly level.
• You will also perform code and architectural reviews, providing guidance on how best to align with data engineering best practices and cloud standards.
• Actively support the team with hands-on development and implementation of data engineering solutions when possible.
• Help with the overall evolution of the data platform, getting involved in architectural decisions and drive the implementation of the technical component of the data strategy.

We are looking for someone who:
• Combines an analytical and business-oriented mindset to create intelligent cloud solutions that enable powerful data experiences, for our colleagues, users and customers.
• Has strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Has extensive exposure to Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services.
• Has experience developing infrastructure as code (IAC), building IAC code pipelines, and can articulate and drive best practice across multiple modularised repositories.
• Is familiar with trunk-based development and best-practices using Git for version control.
• Has built, designed, and maintained data infrastructure in the cloud.
• Drives the implementation of DevOps process and culture where data security and software delivery velocity are in harmony.
• Follows best practice when writing technical documentation and creating architecture diagrams.
• Is familiar with concepts related to databases, data warehouses, data orchestration and data pipeline tools.
• Has continuous delivery experience in an agile environment, such as scrum or kanban.
• Has a STEM subject degree.
