Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Data Center Facility Manager to join our HPC team!

The successful candidate will be accountable for the maintenance of data center equipment and all related infrastructure systems. They will have to make all the strategic decisions related to that scope, discussing the options with IT operations and internal clients, applying, and proposing evolutions to Company standards for data center infrastructure and related maintenance.

This technical scope will likely include electrical, plumbing, and cooling systems. Provide leadership to employees to ensure the data center and its branches (if any) operates at maximum efficiency and capacity. On top of strategic decisions, day-to-day requirements will involve the ability to detect, prevent, and/or remedy potential issues within the supporting infrastructure.

Additional support equipment is included in the scope of the role which includes Fire Suppression systems, Building Automation systems, and general Facilities equipment.

The position will help ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of data center operations. The Data Centre Facility Manager will assist in maintaining a high reliability and performance while keeping operating costs in facilities at a minimum.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the data center's critical physical infrastructure. Ensure that all work performed within the space is done to high quality and without impact to internal/external customers through Change Management.
  • Defines, in coordination with IT operations, internal clients and according to Company standards the maintenance strategy for the Data Center and implements it. Coordinates daily with multiple subcontractors ensuring adherence to contracted SLAs.
  • Contributes to the evolution of Company data centers infrastructure standards.
  • Engage in improvement projects, reaching out to a variety of support teams and contractors, and driving results from conception to completion.
  • Manage teams of 24x7 engineering technicians in all facets of their career.
  • Effectively and efficiently manage the operations budget and expenditures.

Qualifications

Skills and Competencies

  • Advanced cooling, electrical, mechanical certifications (Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline is also acceptable).
  • 5+ years of experience in a management position with direct reports.
  • 10+ years of experience working in several data centers with an emphasis on building and equipment operation.
  • Strong aptitude for trouble shooting and problem solving. Ability to solve problems at their root, stepping back to understand the broader context.
  • An excellent understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical Data Center Operations including systems such as feeders, Transformers, Generators, Switch gear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, CRAH units, VRF systems.
  • Proven ability to deal with subcontractors, from setting up global maintenance agreements, putting in place KPIs to track contractors' performance, to daily interactions with contractors' teams.
  • Ability to create and follow accurate and complete support procedures, system documentation, and issue tracking entries.

  • Proactively and continually improve your level of knowledge about relevant technologies.
  • Ability to maintain SLAs through the implementation of proactive issue detection and reporting.
  • Proven track record of people management and developing teams and in particular ensuring staff are ready for any and conditions through skill and process development.
  • Ability to prioritize in complex, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytic skills, management, and communication with their team of employees.
  • An excellent understanding of the electrical and HVAC skill bases.
