Overview

The Customs & Excise manager is a subject matter expert responsible for the technical aspects of custom management (Import/Export/Duty suspension) including process improvement and audit. In addition, the role holder will support Bond activities when required. The role will be responsible for managing the customs teams ensuring that all HMRC customs & excise compliance requirements are met. The role will also take overall responsibility for the delivery of training to all custom team members and ensure that all intake, warehouse and removal processes are up to date. This is a critical role, as the role is responsible for all day-to-day customs transactions and processes on site / in transit and must ensure that the site remains HMRC compliant. The holder will actively support the Head of Customs and Excise during strategic business development and in managing day to day activities. As Customs and Excise Manager, the candidate must be able to manage all Customs Warehousing Activities and Frontier Declaration in the Defence Industry, and he/she must be able to coordinate large volume of Customs Entries effectively, enduring compliance and data accuracy. Furthermore, the candidate must proactively act to resolve and anticipate any issues or errors that can lead the company or the company's client to financial sanctions or fine. Furthermore, the candidate must be able to coordinate actions with the defence compliance manager to ensure all movements in the defence industry are handle in compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

How will you contribute?

• Support management of all Wincanton Customs & Excise Approvals.

• Ensure all approvals are compliant with HMRC rules & regulations

. • Perform regular internal process audits on all approvals.

• Support processing of Import/Export declarations

. • Ensure all inbound and outbound movements are processed correctly through Manhattan / DMS(Descartes) / EMCS

. • Manage, supervise and train Customs & Excise Team Leader and team of Customs & Excise Administrators

• Ensure that daily reconciliations are performed between Manhattan & DMS to ensure the stock holding on both systems are aligned. Wincanton - Internal

• Ensure all group Bond Warehouses assigned are compliant with HMRC authorisation, National Legislation, and International Rules.

• Provide cover for the Customs and Excise Team Leader when on holiday.

• Provide cover for the Head of Customs and Excise when on holiday.

• Duty Payments processed correctly on all approvals.

• Stock status known (free vs suspended)

• Customs import and warehouse removals processed using Descartes.

• Timely communication and engagement with key stakeholder, internal and external • Display appropriate Wincanton leadership behaviours.

What will you bring?

• You have strong MS Office skills.
• You have strong MS Excel skills
• Minimum Level 4 Customs Practice & Procedures from the UK Customs Academy.
• Minimum 3 years customs operational experience.
• Minimum 3 years management experience.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant sector experience for the environment the role is operating in
• Ability to strategically plan.
• Full Understanding of HMRC custom warehouse process, understanding of warehouse operation, and the ability to
manage the balance between day-to-day operation & ad-hoc tasks.
• Excellent presentation and communication skills
• Communication with a wide range of individuals in the operational environment
• Ability and understanding of controls testing.
• Developing knowledge on Duty and Excise including formal training.
